Meet Lauren Kellond of Lone Tree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kellond.

Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Lauren, owner of Theo Salon in Lone Tree, Colorado. I went to the Aveda institute in 2010. I have been a hairstylist for 10 years, but always worked in a salon where I was a commission stylist. So in August of 2020 I made the (terrifying) decision to go out on my own and open my own little salon suite! And it has been a dream come true. Theo is my happy place, the place I get to make others feel beautiful and cared for. I have been working my butt off to make sure the business is successful, and have successfully almost tripled my income and clientele in a little less than eight months.

Safer and more sustainable beauty options are a huge passion of mine. I want women to use products that work amazing, without added chemicals and things that are bad for them! So any products I carry fit into those criteria, including all the hair Color I use! I specialize in balayage and Color corrections and have recently taken the dive into some newer extension methods! I truly love this career and always have, but going out on my own and building MY brand has given me that much more passion for my craft.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial decision to go out and start a business in the middle of a pandemic was terrifying, stressful and all around stretching. Figuring out how to do my retail taxes, pay random fees Lone tree has and make sure I had enough products/hair Color was pretty overwhelming at first. But, after the initial Hurdles, it has been honestly amazing. Creating and designing my own space has been so fun. And being the one who gets to set the mood for my clients and be in charge of the kind of experience they will get is the best part. I get to care for them the way they deserve. I’m lucky to have clients who truly respect my artistry as I respect their needs, budget and time. I feel truly lucky.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a cosmetologist! Which means I can technically do hair, nails and some skincare? However, I focus mostly on hair and specifically balayage, Color corrections and extensions! I am super proud of how far I have come on a technical level over the last year or so. Really taking my time to learn new techniques and apply those in my salon! Using my technical ability to give someone the hair of their dreams is truly so rewarding. I think what sets me apart is that I truly do care for my clients. I enjoy the whole experience of doing a client’s hair, from the consultation and learning what will work for them, to giving them all my attention during the service and offering amazing take home products that will truly change their hair for the better. Because it is just me in my suite, with one client at a time, I really focus on making the whole experience just that, an experience. People need to feel cared for, especially these days, and I do that.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
First, my family they bring more joy than anything else in this world and are why I work so hard. They are also a huge part of why I went out on my own. So that I could spend more time with them. Second, the fact that creativity and artistry is my JOB!!!! That always amazes me. And my craft gets to bring joy to other people.
