Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Salz.
Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m the founder of The Home Office. I was born and raised in Colorado, and today my husband, dogs, and I are rooted here in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It’s home, and I’m so blessed to say so.
I went to Colorado State for college, where I double majored in Business Marketing and Sociology. After graduation, I spent a couple of years working in the marketing department of Qdoba Restaurant Corp. My job was to create and fulfill new product promotion strategies, and I absolutely loved it.
But then my mom passed away. Suddenly and totally out of the blue. Tragedy often brings clarity, and I was moved to step into my dream of working for myself — my dream to create something from nothing in pursuit of personal and financial freedom.
Following in my dad’s footsteps, I got my real estate license and pursued a career as an agent. Not long after, my husband decided to join me. To better serve our clients and to nurture my love for design, I also got my Interior Design and Home Staging certification. My hubs and I now co-manage our home buying, selling, and styling team here in Northern Colorado.
As a practicing residential real estate agent and interior stylist, I know the struggle of trying to manage All. Of. The. Things. I know, too, how much energy it takes to write content and draft social media calendars — let alone doing so on a consistent basis. But I firmly believe that with the right tools and resources, every agent can build a successful career. Enter The Home Office.
The Home Office was born out of business know-how coupled with my passion for nurturing brand awareness and brand management. I’ve written and designed each piece with other agents in mind. Resources for real estate agents, by a real estate agent.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not! The Home Office launched February 10, 2020 — about one month before a global pandemic dramatically shifted the way real estate agents function and serve. Our messaging, all of the sudden, completely changed. Our marketing budget was reallocated to better serve our operations.
On a personal note, I found out I was pregnant with my first child on April 4, 2020. Because The Home Office is a one-woman show (I’m the CEO, COO, CMO, CFO, etc.), the unique challenge of navigating morning sickness, exhaustion, and general discomfort has forced me to pivot product offerings and reassess sales projections.
It wasn’t until early August when I allowed myself the space and grace to accept that these combined environmental and personal challenges do not make me a failure but, rather, a true entrepreneur willing to bend and shift.
The Home Office – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Home Office strives to produce creative marketing tools and unique resources real estate agents need to master the market with killer marketing, all under one roof.
Strategies and resources crafted by The Home Office give real estate agents the foundation needed to build a successful business, brick-by-brick. We provide thoughtfully crafted and curated tools — workbooks, checklists, guides, social media content, blog scrips, and branding services — that help agents excel in a highly saturated and competitive industry.
We help agents by…
1. Taking the guesswork out of planning an individualized marketing strategy
2. Creating fresh and intriguing content that will educate and inform friends and followers
3. Providing time management and goal-setting tools that create awareness around daily, weekly, and monthly habits
We specialize in helping agents increase productivity and sell more houses by teaching tried-and-true systems and time-saving strategies.
I’m most proud of the content we provide real estate agents. We believe it’s what you say and how you say it that turns prospects into clients. Each script, every social media caption is written to educate and inform with a tone that’s down-to-earth and rooted in empathy with a dash of humor and spunk.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think my definition of success would have been different six months ago — before the pandemic changed the way my business interacts with our customers; before the pandemic forced me to grieve and shift expected sales growth; before the pandemic forced me to put off my desire to hire support staff.
I define success today as the willingness to persevere through unexpected, unwanted, and uncontrolled circumstances with acceptance and grace for oneself; the intentional action to respond to such circumstances that are in alignment with my deepest personal values; to honor that circumstance and response systems will never cease but always shift from season to season.
I’ve learned that my intuition — the voice, the movement that lives so deep within me is more true and more meaningful than any external influence. I’ve learned that great acceptance and validation comes from within. I, alone, have the answers within me so long as I’m willing to listen. As an entrepreneur x2 (I also co-manage a home buying, selling, and styling team in Northern CO), I am comfortable and familiar with the need, the desire to do. I am learning that moments of pause — of simply being — to listen and reflect are just as, if not more meaningful, than the moments of execution.
