Meet Lea Klein

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Klein.

Lea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became a PT in December of 2001, and have always treated in outpatient orthopedics. I began to really enjoy treating pregnant and postpartum patients with sciatica, SI pain, and LBP or hip pain, and then in 2007 I decided to take the leap and further my specialization to include treatment of the pelvic floor. I instantly fell in love with this type of work, and have continued every year to take more course work revolving around helping people with pelvic floor dysfunction. I have always been a very “manual focused” therapist, so I’ve also enjoyed learning new tools such as trigger point dry needling, visceral work, and Kinesio taping. Then, due to management/ownership changes with my employer who I had worked for for 13 years, I was faced with a very scary decision to take a leap and start my own practice. I had just had my third baby and although all the signs were saying it was the right decision, it still seemed like horrible timing.

Here I am 2.5 years later, and am booked out for eight weeks, and have recently hired an amazing PT to help me manage my patient load and help take on new patients. Although it’s a lot of work, I am incredibly passionate about what I do, and couldn’t be happier with my decision. My practice is nestled in a beautiful pilates studio, The Pilates Collective, where I couldn’t feel more supported. I find that patients are achieving amazing results because of the nurturing environment and the one-on-one care for one-hour appointments that I’m now able to offer. I love being a part of a person’s healing process and getting back to the things they enjoy doing!

Has it been a smooth road?
When I first started my business, all-in-all I felt like things almost went “too smoothly”, as my schedule was very quickly filling up, and everyone seemed happy. I think one of my biggest challenges was in making the decision to take Medicare insurance because I was completely alone and had to train myself on how to do all the billing and use a new software. After 6 months of headache and a lot of pondering, I decided to terminate my relationship with Medicare. It was a tough decision but was definitely a good decision for me. Another struggle has just been in managing my growth with setting boundaries on my treatment hours. I am a giver, and I was adding people outside of my normal hours right and left in order to get them in, and finally on the brink of burnout, I realized how important setting limits is.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I am a physical therapist who specializes in the treatment of the pelvic floor, and I would say even more specifically treatment of pregnant and postpartum women. I recently added Katie Peters, DPT to my team and I feel like she and I complement each other well. She specializes in treating the common athlete injuries, and more specifically in runners. We are both strong manual therapists who see each patient walking in the door as an individual with unique needs, and no two patients are exactly the same. We both really enjoy treating neck, back and hip pain and Katie loves treating shoulders and knees.

I think I am most proud about the outstanding customer service start to finish. Patients have access to us by email and by phone, and I have held off on hiring front office staff because I really like the direct care we are able to give our patients. Patients don’t wait past their appointment times, and they are only with us for the entire appointment. It is truly more of a “concierge” practice with highly skilled care.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the amount of sunny days we have! I grew up here and I definitely took the mountains for granted as a little kid. I love to ski and hike, and after working in other parts of the US, I have grown to appreciate how healthy most Coloradans are. I absolutely dislike the growing traffic the most. I luckily don’t have a far commute to work, but when I do have to drive any distance, I am shocked at how much more congested everything is.
