Meet Lesley Pace of The Ebony Yogini in Five Points – Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Pace.

Lesley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started practicing yoga at the age of 16 as a part of my physical therapy for an ACL/MCL tear. My first time doing yoga, it made me feel so powerful and focused and I knew that I wanted it to be a part of my life. As I proceeded through college, I maintained my practice and I enjoyed being able to share what I learned with others. I earned my 200 Hour certification in 2014 and since then, I have been able to teach hundreds of students in the local community and beyond by building inclusive spaces and working to ensure diversity with some of the top brands in yoga (including modeling/contracting for Yoga Journal, Lululemon, and Patagonia).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have always felt as though adversity is a catalyst for crafting character. As I have encountered adversity it has really forced me to be creative and be like water. From being unable to find teaching gigs or venues to host in, to having an empty class or two… getting started was a humbling task. When I began teaching, I was self-conscious and always curious about whether I was doing the best job I could as an instructor. I would overthink…
“Are they relaxed?”
“Is the playlist good?”
“Does this flow feel good in their bodies?”
…however the more I was able to get in front of people the more stable I became and the more I was able to constructively observe myself and my students.

Please tell us about The Ebony Yogini.
With Lesley Pace Yoga and as The Ebony Yogini, I make it a point to craft spaces of peace and healing for the BIPOC community and our allies through relatable content, inclusive spaces, and diverse representation. My offerings range from recorded affirmations and guided meditations to classes, workshops, and retreats. You can also find my partner, Jalisa Williams (@soulflowerexperiences), and I hosting our weekly podcast (The Soul Subliminal) for guided meditations, mindful conversations, and inspiring affirmations.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My desire to consistently be of service to others is what fuels me in my success. To chase success for successes sake is pointless to me if you are not lending your gifts and abilities to those around you. A servant’s mindset is the key to success.
