Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Flower.
Lori, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
All of my life, I have been exploring movement and testing my edges to find balance, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I graduated from the SUNY Purchase Film Conservatory in 1999 and set out to make Documentaries. What I discovered was that I was more interested in living the life I wanted to Document, which lead me to take my 200 hour Yoga teacher training in 2000 at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies. While working there as their staff photographer, I was also diving into my Yoga practice and training, inspired my many incredible world renown teachers there. A bold move out of NYC to a small rural town in VT was exactly what my soul needed in my early 20’s. It wasn’t the best career move, I wanted to keep building an authentic practice. I began to teach at Colleges, Schools and fitness centers. I founded Karmic Connection Yoga, had a daughter by age 31, and then continued to expand into the realm of Partner Yoga/ Acro Yoga.
From 2010-2012, I became certified in Montreal to teach Acro Yoga and do Thai bodywork. I co-founded Om Studio, a Yoga/ Healing Arts Center in Montpelier VT. The move to Boulder Colorado happened two years ago when I embarked upon a fresh, expansive new beginning with my daughter here. I was called to attend Naropa’s Wilderness Therapy program for my graduate studies. I have always found solace in Nature and have lead many Yoga/ Hiking retreats that sparked my interest for moving deeper into the realm of this unique form of therapy. I currently offer Life & Yoga coaching with Nature-based influence. Wellness sessions can combine everything from Yoga- Meditation- Thai Bodywork- Talk therapy- to help clients find their balance and vitality in life!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that struggles make us stronger and a huge learning part of the journey. Some of the challenges that I faced were moving to a small town at the peak of a blossoming Photography and Yoga career. I longed to simplify my life to align with my deeper desires to make time for living in nature while not getting caught up in the hustle-bustle of a big city. Although I did accomplish that, I was often hustling and commuting to make ends meet and raise my daughter as a single mother over the past nine years. I have also found that being an entrepreneur requires intense dedication and discipline. It’s hard to do everything alone. I love to partner with others now to create retreats, like our Acro Yoga Hot springs retreat at Avalanche in November!
Please tell us about Karmic Connection Yoga.
Karmic Connection Yoga lives and breathes as a healing movement of conscious connection where we fully engage with nature and life in joyful, creative ways. I love assisting people in their healing journey. I specialize in Partner based movement, which I believe benefits both the receiver and the giver (in the case of Thai massage) or becomes a beautiful, collaborative process (during Acro Yoga choreography). I love to inspire others simply by living as an example of what is possible when we are in the flow and good alignment while blossoming in our relationships and living in harmony with nature.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am open-minded, clear and creative. Having integrity is vital to success and positive connections with others as well. We are in this together!
