Meet Loso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loso.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your music, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
First off, I’d like to introduce myself, I’m Mista Los but everyone calls me Loso or Los. Either one is fine with me though, just don’t call me by my government, or late for dinner and we good haha. I started writing when I was like eleven, but I was only plugging in my own lyrics to my favorite Bone Thugs-N-Harmony records while keeping the same flow/cadence. But after a while, I wanted to be more personal and express my pain while telling my story.

In fact, that’s what pulled me to hip-hop and Bone Thugs in the first place. Hearing the sorrow radiate thru the TV speakers and relating to it on so many different levels was not only therapeutic but monumental. I realized everything I’ve endured was extremely relatable. All I had to do was channel that hurt into the music, so I could be what Bone Thugs was for me, for someone else. Be that voice, an outlet, and let them know they’re not alone and someone understands them and what they’re going through cause I lived it first hand. So I capitalized on it. Now many years later, I have some craziness to talk about cause I’ve done more than most in my short life. You can say I live life to the fullest haha. One thing though, that’s helped me get where I am, is persistence and self-motivation. I mean, I’m nowhere near where I wanna be in my career but I’m definitely in a good place to make something out of the hard work I’ve put in. I’ve made some really great connections in Denver with some amazing people, from Artists n engineers to promoters and venue owners. But this is really only the beginning. Be on the look out for my first body of work titled “Creepin’ 2.2” from yo boiii Loso aka Mista Los.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If you had a smooth road, you probably don’t appreciate what you have, just saying, haha. With that being said, hellllllll naaaa it hasn’t been smooth 😂. Most of my struggles are really financial though. The music industry is expensive when you’re independent. But I’ve always known that you gotta spend money to make money. But if I’m a completely honest, I gotta say my lifestyle was one of my biggest obstacles. I was pretty much my own destruction and stopped myself from reaching my truest potential. I’m still taking five steps forward and two steps back. But I realized a lot. I had an epiphany if you will, haha. Now I’m applying what I’ve learned in the last five years that I’ve really taken my career seriously since my move to D-Town. Let’s see where it takes me.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Every professional artist views themselves as a business, and I’m no different. I do own Black Attic Entertainment with a business partner, but I’m stick to Mista Los for this interview. I’d say I specialize in self-expression. I love making music about past stories, whether they’re about my thuggish side, my pain or about the womanizer, I finally contained, haha. I’m comfortable in my own skin, and it shows in the music. As far as what I’m known for, I don’t really know, to be completely honest. I’m still relatively unknown in Denver, apart from the solid connections I established. I am my own biggest critic like always and says I’m known for having them catchy hooks from Legion Beats on a lot of my records. And I follow up with this, my debut mixtape titled “Creepin’ 2.2” will put an end to that before it even starts but you can be the judge when it drops.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
As of yet, I can’t really name one moment specifically. All that I’ve accomplished up to this point makes me proud, and though it might not be a lot to some, I am getting recognition I’ll be proud when Denver and Colorado have a respected music scene.
