Meet Luke Hardcastle of Rhythm and Brews in Platte Park, Centennial and Castle Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Hardcastle.

Luke, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as a behavior therapist working with kids with autism and while doing a fundraising mini-tour for one of my clients, I began teaching guitar lessons on the side. I taught small groups for a few years until I had a different vision for what I wanted to do to grow the business. I started Rhythm and Brews to focus on putting the guitar at the forefront of group lessons and getting my students out into the music scene as much as possible. My students and friends provided a uniquely safe environment to launch a new business as they were incredibly supportive and helpful in manifesting my vision.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would say it has been smoother than expected for starting a business, but not perfect by any means. I am blessed to be surrounded by a great support system including my friends, family, and a core of students who wanted to come with me to my new company. However, there have certainly been learning-on-the-fly moments like needing to puddle jump between venues to find that Goldilocks zone, and making sure my curriculum fits for different teachers as much as for different students.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We offer group guitar lessons first and foremost. I have honed in a curriculum that utilizes techniques gleaned from my experience teaching groups of adults, one-on-one lessons, and eight years of work in behavioral psychology and skill acquisition. I am most proud of the atmosphere we have cultivated where we focus on playing guitar first and foremost supported by a unique set of teaching reference materials that cover every style of learning. Students can learn in a fun, no-pressure environment with like-minded people of all skill levels. One specialty of our business is our higher skilled students who opt-in to being “Mentors”. Their job is to help new students feel welcome and give quick assistance with minor skills or confusion. In any of our beginner classes, we can take someone who has never touched a guitar and have them playing along with the real song in less than 30 minutes. We also offer team-building events that are an exciting way to improve morale through the bonding power of music. Soon we will be offering access to exclusive video lessons to supplement our weekly meetings.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Denver is an excellent location for Rhythm and Brews. Many people look to find social groups that are fun and challenging and taking group guitar lessons definitely fits that bill. Our business is the place to start as a beginner because of the solid curriculum, our “Mentor” program, and our excellent teachers.
