Today we’d like to introduce you to Mac Gabriel.
Mac, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I officially started DJing in March 2015, my freshman year of college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. Getting myself started there, it allowed me to travel and DJ in different cities around the state. Cities that include Fort Collins, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction and more.
Being younger, I was always surrounded by music. I can recall being with my brother and him having different music software that he would let me mess with. Whether it was for making beats, DJing or voice recording, I was always around something that would keep me occupied in a musical sense. My dad had a wide variety of music he would listen to. I remember hearing genres like Kompa, Reggae, R&B and Country around the house. I was also a big fan of writing poetry.
Ever since I got into the door of music with DJing, it opened my ears to my love for music and the creativity that comes with it. Whether it’s production, engineering or songwriting, I am infatuated with it all.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth at all. A LOT of ups and downs through the journey. I would say my biggest struggle would be making sure I’m able to balance out the business side while keeping the creativity alive to stay inspired. Making sure that every opportunity is not based upon financial gain but ALWAYS knowing your worth of what you bring to the table.
The other struggles that came along the way include the lack of attention towards my health, the stress on my bonds with others and self-doubt. I’m currently still on the journey and it really does force me to take it one day at a time, manage the time that I do have and be grateful that I’m able to create memories through the experiences that involve my craft in music.
Please tell us about your business.
The main skill I emphasize is DJing. I created the business for myself in 2017 and it was named DJ Machadellic LLC. I recently changed the name of the business to D.R.E.A.M Lifestyle Ltd. I run the business so I can do multiple things under the umbrella. With the main skill being DJing, I do clubs, bars, weddings, corporate events, dances and more. Whatever requires some tunes, I’m your guy.
I also do other things that include Music Production, Engineering, Graphic Design, Event Coordinating and Marketing/Promotions. (I actually want to release songs as a solo artist and make hits. Lol. I am speaking it into existence so the time will come)
With myself being the only person along with my business, it taught me how to wear multiple hats and how each skill/craft intersect with each other. What I’m most proud of is that I’m actually learning the logistics of running the business. Even though the business side can be tedious and boring from time to time, it has taught me the value of being self-efficient and understanding the trial-and-error of what comes with the business.
What sets me apart from the others is that I’m just unapologetically myself that likes to spread good vibes. I’m goofy. I like to make jokes. I don’t take things too seriously but when the time comes of focus, I’ll step up to the plate. I have a yearning for learning so I love stepping up to a challenge and making sure that I figure out what’s the best way to get the task complete.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as someone who is able to create a living off of their creations. Everything starts as an idea. Once the idea can become a thing, it’s a creation. When that creation is able to take care of your loved ones, including yourself, that feeling of success is reached.
