Meet Matt Grogan of Elevation Design in Downtown Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Grogan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Matt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born in 2015, I started Elevation Design to help those smaller companies who are ready to make a leap forward with professional design. My passion for designing brand systems came from nine years of active duty in the Marine Corps, where we take our “brand” very seriously. Perhaps that is why I also spent seven years in college for business, design, and marketing. I take a very pragmatic approach to designing brands, focusing on their marketing and business strategies before putting any ink to paper. Today, I love to help businesses through a variety of industries find the right voice to connect to their customers.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business comes with many challenges. The time I spent in the agency world allowed me to focus my efforts on design work, whereas now I have to play CEO, CFO, COO, and Chief Designer. I quickly had to learn how to balance and prioritize important but non-billable activities.

Please tell us about Elevation Design.
EDC is a boutique design agency with big project experience that combines a passion for creative communication with clients who make a difference. I collaborate with you to visually charge your message with a uniquely authentic and memorable voice that stands out from the crowd.

That’s a lot of “marketing speak” saying I use design to connect with your customers. I specialize in brand identities because it is the foundation for any business’s marketing strategy. I fuse graphic design with business and marketing to ensure everything we do is about making you more money.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have been more aggressive in building my list of relationships. I have learned that relationships breed long-term benefit, whether they need design work of their own, or via referrals. It’s too easy for new businesses to focus only on the 90-day window. Cultivate as many relationships as early as possible.
