Meet Maura Macauley of Maura’s Munchables in Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maura Macauley.

Maura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved baking. My dream had always been to be a stay at home, mom. After having my second kiddo. I left my job to stay at home. Money was tight and I wanted to do something to contribute. Colorado had recently passed their cottage food laws, allowing people to sell shelf-stable foods from their homes. I decided to take my love of baking and turn it into income for our family. The decorating part was not in the plans. I tried decorating on a whim and loved it. People started purchasing my decorated cookies, and as they say, the rest is history.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been to find the balance of being a wife and mom, as well as a business owner. My family is the most important thing, which means telling people no and turning down orders.

Please tell us about Maura’s Munchables.
I make custom decorated sugar cookies, which is an art. I take pride in making something that looks beautiful but tastes even better than it looks. My favorite part of my business is teaching others my art.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in Wyoming. We got maybe four channels on our TV and we’re allowed to watch very little. This meant there was lots of time for adventures with my brother and sister, from riding bikes through knee deep mud puddles to digging “forts” on the hillside and catching coolers full of garter snakes. My mom was always cool with our crazy ideas and just let us be kids.
