Today we’d like to introduce you to The Maverick.
We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got started from humble beginnings in SouthSide Chicago, Burnside neighborhood of Chicago. Home to legendary artists like Common, Kanye West, and New School trap-rap G Herbo. I attended Betty Shabazz Academy, Harold Washington Elementary, and the United Nation of Islam Mosque & Academy; all institutions dedicated to Music Education and success in all fields. I was exposed early from the age of four to recorders, trumpets, brass instruments of all kinds. My love for music grew with a passion. With that came a sense of purpose and culture when I focused on poetry and spoken word.
I always won when it came to lyrics and sonnets amongst my peers. Coming in contact with influences like Lil Wayne, following the Young Money/Cash Money brand since 01′, I grew up with heavy dirty south influences, stories that I could relate to. My family would play the blues, soul, and R&B while my dad growing up would bump 2Pac amongst other East/West Coast rap and instrumentals. These days I am constantly looking to convey my message and heart through my music while tapping into the classical music I know and love. Free-styling grew threw my ability to free-write and poise my thoughts into fluent rhymes to last a lifetime; thereby creating the ability to be memorable. My lyrics and music expression is just that, an expression of what I know and have experienced. I even picked up a bliss for country/bluegrass in 2013 while in Iowa. However, Hip Hop/R&B will always be my home and focus.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not, hahaha! Some of the struggles would include chasing your goals and ambitions despite conflicting family members, outsiders, etc. Support always comes from within first, self-confidence is what I love sharing with fans. Overcoming obstacles even in the dark with no light ahead. Focusing on the positive and tripling down. Also, I would say raising a family while aiming for the tour and of course dealing with under/over-zealous and greedy bookies. They never said being great was easy which is why I say let go of the past and keep moving forward.
We’d love to hear more about your work.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As of right now, I deserved the credit as I do everything myself from lyrics to production even on freestyles and covers/remixes. IandImbassi Photography (I&I) for photography and videography. My inspiration is Ezmo, a reputable and amazing rap artist in Denver, Colorado.
