Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Gonzales.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After getting married in 2017, I realized I was one of the only brides who absolutely loved the planning process. I immediately began researching the Wedding Planning Industry, listening to any podcast I could find and reading every blog out there. I launched Petrichor Planning on October 23rd, 2017, just 1 month after our wedding, and unknowingly 1 day pregnant.
I was eight months pregnant when I executed my first wedding, getting into the car after a 16 hour day to go home, bloody heals and all, I began to cry, happy tears. I knew I was meant to be in this industry.
Fast forward to the birth of our daughter, immediately knew I had to leave my corporate style day job, I knew it would not serve me well to be working in a 50 + hour work week with strict hours and no freedom for scheduling purposes. I simply didn’t want to give up lazy pj mornings, drinking coffee and snuggling our sweet baby girl. That said, my wedding planning business was not in a place where I could go full time and at the end of the day, I was our family’s breadwinner at the time so I felt like I was stuck. If you know me, you know I don’t put up with that type of whoa is me attitude, so I quickly began to brainstorm ways I could leave my job, still provide for our family and create the life I desired.
I had been a fitness instructor from the time I was 18, following in my mother’s footsteps at a young age. I had a passion for helping people to learn to love working out and love their bodies. This was something I’d given up when I got overwhelmed a few years into my marketing position, taking on a leadership role, I knew I had too much on my plate and fitness, while my passion, was the piece of my life that fell to the wayside.
So why couldn’t I go back? In December of 2019, I started calling a few fitness studios I had either worked at or worked out at. Upon calling the owner of Pure Barre Fort Collins, to my surprise, she was not interested in hiring me back on as an instructor, but she did have something to tell me that would change the trajectory of my families lives, forever. She wanted to sell the studio and asked if I would be interested. Um, YES. I will never forget where I was when I heard her say this over the phone, the conversation to follow with my husband, and the sudden rush of THIS is what I am meant for. A dream that I never knew I had suddenly materialized right in front of my eyes. My husband’s response? “We’ll find a way to make this work, this is what you were born to do”.
With the help of serious manifestation, Colorado Lending Source funding, and tremendous moral support from our family & friends, on May 4th, 2019, my husband, Michael and I became the proud owners of Pure Barre Fort Collins.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to owning the studio was rough. As we stood there in December looking for a possibility of bringing this to fruition, there seemed to be 100 doors shut and locked tightly. My husband and I leaned into our faith and one another, we persevered through every challenge, each time, coming out on top and stronger than we were the day before.
We went with an alternate lender, using the Colorado Lending Source, an incredible Colorado company that helps inspired people to create thriving businesses with funding, education, and resources. I applied for the maximum loan they offer and went through a rigorous interview process to receive funding.
We continually hit hurdles, but through it all, I truly believe the journey was exactly as it was meant to be. We were challenged to reflect on what exactly this business meant to us and each time another door opened, we knew that we were not only following our dreams but God’s will for our lives.
Alright – so let’s talk business – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
