Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Gutteron.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Meghan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started back during my undergrad at the University of Hawaii when I was assigned to the stage manager position for a class theater project. What started as managing one production turned into managing every production the college held for the next two years, then traveled outward into the performing arts community in Honolulu. The experience leads me to help organize and manage other events, mostly friends’ life moments such as getting married, baby showers, etc.
I discovered I love getting to know people. That connecting, sharing, and laughing with others is what charges my heart and leaves me wanting to take on the world. I deeply appreciate that I get to combine my love for connecting with becoming a part of an intimate and profound life event. What typically starts over a cup of coffee usually ends in fits of laughter and tears down our cheeks as I get to know wonderful couples and their stories, and experience first hand what lead them down the aisle.
While weddings are my passion, my team and I love creating and collaborating to make all types of events become a reality. From organizing conferences to taking over management of Parker Oktoberfest two years ago and now managing a 4th of July 5k, we love the variety of events that bring our community together. I can’t wait to see where our growth takes us as we expand our tribe this year and officially become a planning team!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like events (and life), nothing goes without hiccups. They’re the best learning moments. I remember when I finally decided to take planning weddings went from being a “hobby” and helping friends to decide to become a business and put myself out there as a true event planner. I struggled with being shy and intimidated by the idea of having to network in order to expand my business and make the connections necessary to grow. But bit by bit, one awkward networking event after another, I made friends and became more confident, immersing myself into the industry. It leads to great partnerships and I learned so much from countless talented wedding professionals.
And then there’s always the struggle of growth. Both seeking it out, and being able to keep up with it. I had always worked a full-time job while planning 15+ events a year. Working a day job limited my ability to expand my company and take on larger projects. Finally, I took the leap! After having worked for someone else since I was 16, I walked away from the 9-5 and a steady income to embrace a true entrepreneur lifestyle. Within weeks of this decision, we were officially hired to manage the long-established Parker Oktoberfest and countless other fun community events. It’s been wild and fun to say the least. Now we are planning our largest community event yet at Civic Center Park in Denver, we’re reaching for the stars!
Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
MAG Event is an intimate team of talented planners who love connecting with our clients and capturing every detail. We pride ourselves on making each event a true experience. Not only do we enjoy helping couples down the aisle, but we believe in bringing the community together as well. Our community events range from fun and cultural to informative or mental and physical focused.
We are known for genuinely loving what we do and approaching each event and client with fresh creativity and excitement. Carefully selecting and intentionally assembling details to tell a story. The creative possibilities are endless! It’s so rewarding to see a client smile when they see a detail that means something to them.
We believe what sets us apart from others is our desire to build relationships with everyone involved in our events. From the client to the guests, to the vendors who help make it happen. It’s a unique community we are a part of, and we take it to heart.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up in San Diego, we were always outside. My best friend Holly, my little brother Alan, and I used to venture off into the national park space behind our homes and go on “adventures”. We would hike up into the hills where a waterfall-fed into a stream, and we would play for hours. Near the waterfall, we’d find countless petroglyphs from the native tribes that used to inhabit the area. We would sit and look at them, creating stories of what they meant, and watch the dragonflies buzz over the stream. It was our little piece of paradise. I believe it was what solidified my love for the outdoors, adventuring into less traveled spaces and connecting with nature.
