Meet Miszs B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miszs B.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was raised by a single mom dying of Sickle Cell Anemia. My father was in prison most of my childhood. My mom passed away when I was 14. Her love and passion for everything she did in life is my inspiration for music. She would always tell me, “ You’re living” so you already defeated the odds. She was told she would never have kids, and if she did, it would surely kill her.

It did, killed us both, our hearts were pumped and here I am today. My mother always wanted me to be educated, thanks to my grandparents that raised me after she passed, I have a Bachelors in Psychology, Masters in counseling/school counseling. I am a course away from earning a second Master’s in Business and Economics with an emphasis on Non Profit Management. I have future endeavors to begin an organization memorizing my late mother. “The Monica Trotter Sickle Cell Foundation”

Musically, I love the sound of the instruments. I like how an artist can envision what’s on their minds and create just that, Art that helps others in life, whatever part they may be in. I hope my music will inspire, help others love, cry, laugh and inspire.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Mom passing was a huge obstacle, I had to struggle to find my own identity. College was tough also! I faced a lot of racism and adversity. I overcame and one day soon I hope to reap the benefits.

What were you like growing up?
I was always the fun kid. I had a bunch of homeboys, not many homegirls, but a couple. I was driving at nine, taking my mom. Back and forth to the hospital. I was always mature for my age. I used to pick my friends up and go hang out. I was very much so into sports. I ran Varsity track and was a starter. We were League Champions. I also played varsity softball and Basketball. Even though I always thought I would be in the WNBA, or in the Olympics, music was always my main passion. In college I would host charity events and talent show gigs. I was always a star in my mind.
