Meet Monticue Connally of Jiridon Apothecary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monticue Connally.

Monticue, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Monticue is an herbalist and plant medium in Colorado.
He started dabbling into herbalism at the age of 16 when he found out that mixing water with onion powder was an amazing remedy for burns. He went around with that remedy helping his family, friends and co-workers who were shocked at how quickly the pain would disappear.

After graduating from college, he was called to go deeper into alternative medicine and decided to attend the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and then the Denver School of Massage Therapy after. Monticue decided to get Certified in Reiki Healing soon after.

But Monticue didn’t really find his peace until he began to work with local plants. He met a teacher who worked closely with the plants of the Rocky Mountains and learned many secrets. One day she took him to the mountains to dig a mysterious root that got rid of his nightmares forever.

Monticue then thought it would be a good idea to get Certified in Herbal Medicine. After gaining the certification, Monticue began to work out of an herbal shop on Broadway where he was able to test and refine various herbal formulas.

With this knowledge, Monticue was finally able to brew a cup of life giving tea that could soothe the anxious and bring his friends and family from the depths of depression. He had some of his first successes with the use of the herb Scuttelaria lateriflora, commonly known as Skullcap. He now sells it along with other herbs that support its nerve repairing function in a blend he calls “On your nerves.”

Monticue was soon to be able to cure himself of illnesses that had riddled him for many years, including a mysterious illness known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that stumped his doctors. Many people also caught wind of his mediumistic abilities and asked him to come to their homes to get rid of negative energy or spiritual entities that made them feel uncomfortable. A few people hired him to talk to their trees to make peace with them before being cut down.

He started a mobile apothecary with his fiancé and began to do the work for his community. He now leads herbal walks, gives herbal and spiritual counseling and teaches many community classes on a large range of herbal topics.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been very twisty and odd at times. LOL
While learning the ways of herbalism, I had two children, went through a divorce and struggled financially.
In one of my apprenticeships, I had a teacher that was emotionally abusive.
I struggled with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome while I was going through herb school. The knowledge from the school led me to my cure.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jiridon Apothecary – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Monticue Connally (Monti Clevah) is a Denver Music Artist & Medicine Man who resonates with the sounds of African Drums, Rhythmic Chanting and Afro-Caribbean Folklore. He writes medicine songs for the plants. He sings these songs to bridge gaps between the hearts of men and the and the angelic forces of nature. His walk with music has been a long and successful one. In 2006 he won the international USA songwriting competition for the Hip Hop Category and since then has performed with many local bands including Denver’s own internationally renowned and socially aware rap group “The Flobots”. Growing up, Hip Hop was a very sacred way of life in his family. At every family gathering, the young males would form a circle and rap rhymes that held deep personal truths within witty packaging. Monticue graduated with honors from the Denver School of the Arts as a Vocal Music Major and has performed in many local plays and musicals including the opera “Porgy and Bess” at Boettcher Hall in front of audiences of close to 3,000 people.

Monticue is a graduate of the Artemisia & Rue Western Herbal Medicine and Earth Centered Healing Traditions Program. He instructs students in working with Chakras and Essential Oils, Herbal Men’s Health, Blessing with Herb and many other esoteric and health related topics. Monticue leads Urban Herb Walk in the city. These are growing events where people in the inner city can become more aware of the wonderful medicines growing about them. He is also a drummer for the annual Kwanzaa celebrations who is often asked to speak to the children and rap songs about the many wonders of the plants’ medicine.

Monticue also writes beautiful songs about the plants and sings them with excellence. Ask him to sing his “Damiana” song which is a big hit among herbal students. Monticue has been on many herbal adventures with herbalist Shelley Torgove, the founder of Artemisia and Rue. On these adventures, you’ll catch him teaching students at Shelley’s side as they walk through the most beautiful mountainous areas in Colorado. Monticue received his Reiki one and two certifications from Denver’s Usui Center and has since received Reiki three Master Status. Herbs and alternative healing methods have been a lifelong interest for the Denver native who plans to continue to use workshops and music to teach people in urban areas how to access the many esoteric tools within and the earthly medicines growing around them.

He received the Preventative Care Leadership Award from the Be Well Health Initiative in 2019.
Monticue Connally is proud of the fact that the community is learning to appreciate these ancient medicines and beginning to feel comfortable with the idea of “try the herbalist first.”

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The plan is to write a book about the spiritual nature of plants and how we can benefit from connecting with them. I would love to grow my practice, give more lectures and study plants world wide.
