Meet Morgan Mendez of Lady Ilg Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Mendez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey with photography happened by mistake–I never saw myself doing this full time. Back in 2013, I was nannying for a very sweet family, and while I was nannying, I happened to have some free time on my hands while the kiddos were napping. So I started dabbling in photography (in part, because I wanted to raise money to self publish a book I had just written). I would offer free sessions in exchange for a donation on Facebook, and my friends and family really took to it!

Over time, I began purchasing better equipment and improving in photography and decided, “Hey, I actually really like this!”. I quickly grew into me filing my business in the state, charging for my work, and now, six years later, I’m photographing luxury Colorado weddings full time, while simultaneously hosting a small business podcast called, “Let’s be honest about the business.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not; I’ve struggled immensely as a business owner, and if I’ve learned anything, it’s that overnight success is not a thing. I’ve frequently wanted to throw in the towel and go get a “real job”; I’ve struggle with mental health, the loneliness that is owning a business, and not feeling like I’m good enough at what I do. But all that to say that entrepreneurship is a constant roller coaster and I’m thankful for the low times because they have taught me to grow well out of my comfort zone.

Let’s talk about business. Tell us about Lady Ilg Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in luxury weddings in Colorado…but I think what sets me apart from the rest is that I hold a real emphasis on story-telling in my business. Any photographer can post a pretty picture on their website or Instagram and caption it, “I’m so #blessed I got to photograph so-and-so’s wedding in Greece!”, but my main focus is telling my own personal stories that my clients can relate to and book me for, as well as the stories of my clients. That’s what I’m incredibly proud of in my business and what I believe has truly helped my success!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband for sure! I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for him! He has truly been my biggest support and cheerleader along the way! I also wouldn’t be here without my amazing Mastermind girls, and also the courses I’ve purchased and learned from along the way. I have absolutely loved learning from other industry experts such as Jasmine Star, Jenna Kutcher, and Jana Williams.
