Meet Natalie Leiker of HealthMarkets Insurance Agency in South Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Leiker.

Natalie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Licensed for seven years, I started my business in Kansas City and moved to Denver in 2016. My husband, as well as, several other family members are medical professionals so I get to see the flip side of insurance from their perspective.

My experience with the individual health insurance market in three states has given me insight into how insurance companies operate and how to best serve my clients. There’s no one plan that fits for everyone and this keeps me on my toes! I love learning new ways to help clients save money and find the best medical coverage for their specific needs. I also love working with seniors in the Medicare market. These are some of my favorite clients because they understand the importance of insurance. In many cases, they are high users of their plans so we have to find a plan that works from day 1!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Insurance is not an easy or logical industry. There have been so many changes since I first started my business and I am thankful for the opportunity to continue learning. Each year we have many hours of training to make sure we are up to date on a rule and plan changes so we can best educate others.

At the one year mark of being in business, the first Open Enrollment Period under the Affordable Care Act began. This meant that I had to relearn a lot of the processes and legalities of how insurance plans worked. Which plans were available to my clients, the cost of those plans, how and when we could enroll all changed overnight. Many insurance companies left the market and I had to build new relationships and strategies for taking care of my clients.

The same year, my company requested that I get into the Medicare market, which was another major undertaking. Again, learning new regulations, plan options and enrollment opportunities kept me on my toes and forced me to adapt quickly.

HealthMarkets has been the best partner in my 7+ years as a licensed insurance agent. The technology, training and support they give have absolutely made a difference in my success as a business owner.

Throughout my career, I have focused on individuals and families who are in need of guidance on their health insurance decisions. This could be a family who does not have the opportunity to enroll in a plan through an employer or an individual who is eligible for Medicare due to their age or a disability.

In each state (Colorado, Kansas & Missouri), I work with multiple insurance plans to help simplify the process of shopping for insurance. I serve my clients by walking them through ACA requirements and by learning about their particular needs and wants when it comes to their health insurance coverage. Having multiple options available allows me to be objective when offering solutions for my clients, and I pride myself on making the process of selecting a plan as easy and painless as possible. After our interactions, I often hear my clients say that they wished they had met me sooner. I feel I have done my job well when the person I am meeting with learns something about the insurance industry and is better equipped to make the right choices for their family.
