Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Trimboli.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was in an entirely different career when the concept of LivingRoots began. While coaching softball at Regis University, I was working towards my Masters’ Degree and one of the classes I took was Entrepreneurship. The 8-week course required us to formulate a business idea, and each week we’d build out a piece of what it would take to actually start the business. Very quickly, LivingRoots became an all-consuming idea that I continued developing well past the assignments’ completion. I chose to do my final capstone for graduation on a thorough business plan and the following Spring, I quit my career and began researching who and what I would need to make LivingRoots a reality. After about a year and a half, I had found a development team and marketing team to help me build the product. The idea stemmed from a realization that modern technology has drastically changed the way generations are communicating with each other. Stories and relationships are dwindling and privacy online has gone with it. The goal was to make a private space online where a family can connect and share their past history as well as their living legacy in order for current and future generations to stay connected to the family online.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m not even sure where to start! The good news is, Denver is a fantastic city for someone like me who has built out a concept but has a lot to learn about executing in the startup world! It has been far from smooth, but manageable. I almost signed a co-founder agreement with a developer who disappeared. We had to move the entire website to a template after a custom build due to problems with the mobile site. I’ve been an NCAA coach for ten years before taking on the large task of building a web product that has nothing to do with sports! At times, I am the roadblock, and other times I am the sole driving force. I’ve heard enough horror stories to know that the challenges we’ve faced so far are not uncommon, and not death sentences. With that said, every day is a challenge in one way or another. My biggest realization is that I just have to keep going, ask for help and choose action over perfection in the initial benchmarks of creating a new startup.
Please tell us about LivingRoots – what should we know?
LivingRoots (.com) is a web service that provides users space to easily and privately capture their family legacy. Were focused on families as our main audience but plan to expand and provide the same service for businesses and organizations with a storied history of who they are and how they got there. We specialize in connecting different generations with simple tools and features to capture family members from the past and the present. I think what we’re most proud of is staying true to the products’ core purpose and mission throughout the development process. This truly is a safe place to ask and answer questions about our experiences and tell our own life story.
What sets us apart is the ability to capture past, present, and future in one place. Think of us as a virtual family time-vault!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We’ve got to continue exposing the product and it’s purpose as much as possible. If people don’t know it exists, it won’t have a chance.
