Meet Nikki Milton of Marvel Marketing Squad in Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Milton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Branding and marketing are a passion for me and I like to tell folks that I’m a corporate marketing manager on the lamb. My graphic design degree was my intro into the world of marketing, but I had no idea that 15 years later, that intro would lead into creating my own business.

I wouldn’t say that I’m an entrepreneurial spirit. In fact, I was in between marketing jobs when a friend of mine reached out for some part-time help due to an injury. If I had known that part-time work would lead into several referrals and more work than I could manage solo – I might have been too nervous to say yes. As the cards played out, I became a business owner and now run a content marketing agency with a squad full of contractors that help me create content for my clients.

Creating content allows me to combine my love of writing, my degree in graphic design, my passion for branding, and my knowledge in marketing. It is sort of the perfect storm when it comes to creating quality content for other businesses.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If I had to do it over, I’d definitely learn much more about the proper way to structure and set-up a business. My path led me to doing this sort of the opposite way – and trying to figure out and adapt as I go. I’m good at what I do but that doesn’t mean I knew the first thing about running a business. Wearing the Everything CEO hat is a struggle for any business owner, but learning how to structure a business, pick the right pricing, and get your head around the proper business model – well, those are all important and not to be overlooked or bypassed.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Marvel Marketing Squad – what should we know?
Marvel Marketing Squad is a content marketing agency that combines copywriting, design and marketing savvy into one solid package. We specialize in helping small businesses finally commit to and become consistent with their online marketing in a way the highlights their brand. We specialize in creating content that matches a company’s brand voice. While anyone can create a social media post, understanding quality copy and design – and getting a feel for a business brand – aren’t talents that just any person can muster.

I believe our ability to speak your brand in an online way is what makes us stand out. What a relief to find a company that can help you stay consistent without tripping you up, right?

I’m most proud of the fact that I built this business based 100% on referrals and word of mouth. Quality work really does speak for itself.

There are so many people I could thank here. I’m not only a creator of content – but also a consumer of quality content. Some of my favorite online influencers – who taught me so much – are Seth Godin, Chris Brogran, Marie Forleo, and Danielle LaPorte.

My friend, Hollie Clere, of the Social Media Advisor, has been a huge influence for me – helping pave the way into networking and the local business community that I really would have struggled to do myself.

My husband, Jeff Milton of Marketing Progress, is also a marketing genius and 100% responsible for my beautiful website and logo. He ‘gets’ me as both a person and a brand and helps me share what I do with others.
