Meet Noe Benitez Ceja of Denver Photo Company in Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noe Benitez Ceja.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born into a family of people who only knew how to make money in illicit ways. After growing up in rough surroundings and following my family’s examples, I found myself in prison for three years on drug distribution charges. When I was released, I vowed to turn my life around, I was 24 yrs old. I found a love for photography and have lived up to that vow. As a father and husband, my life has new meaning and I want to show my kids that you don’t have to be contained by what you grow up knowing.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have had to deal with many hardships in my life. My father was murdered when I was very young, and my stepfather was an abusive person. I have very little good to look back on growing up, but I believe these things don’t have to define a person. I once walked 15 hrs across a desert through the night to get back to my life. If I can do that I can do anything.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
I started my company as a way to escape from the everyday grind and see our city through a new lens. I sincerely believe that the way I see things every day is just different from most people. I tend to see our city as a fascinating place full of scenes waiting to be captured. The shots that best showcase our city are often one you walk by everyday without even noticing, that is what I strive to capture.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
For me, Denver is amazing! This city really embraces creatives. The RiNo neighborhood is a prime example of this. There are so many beautiful places to capture with my camera that I just can’t imagine having a bad photo in this city. I think anyone who is willing to work for their dream can make it happen in the mile-high city.
