Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Nobles.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Paige. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Supperhood was founded by a couple of Denver transplants embarrassed they only knew a handful of our neighbors’ names. And half of those names were really dog not human names. We grew up in a different time (the 80’s) and a different place (Kansas) where people knew, relied on, and maybe even liked their neighbors. They were an extension of the family. Today, we might not even know their names. Getting to know the people who live around you can be fun, enriching, and actually, make “home” more than just a place you keep your stuff. We help Denverites like ourselves get off our phones and build in-real-life human connection and community with people in our neighborhood over shared meals.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, smooth is not the right word to starting a company. The founder, Paige, who came up with the idea and is humbly learning the idea alone is just the first of many many complicated steps. Challenges have been actually developing the idea into a working website with functionality that can keep up with always evolving ideas and features, as well as ensuring we are taking the right steps legally to protect ourselves and our neighbors.
Please tell us about your company.
I (Paige) founded the company, which for the record has not officially launched yet. I noticed a gap in the market for meeting people. We’ve got easy solutions to date (Bumble) or find like-minded friends (Meetup) or connect with your coworkers (LinkedIn), but the only tool we have that connects you with the people you pass by on the street every day is NextDoor. Yet, at its core, Next Door does not facilitate human connection. It’s turned into a platform to rant or sell a couch.
Knowing we’re an increasingly emotionally isolated and lonely society where knowing our neighbors is a lost art, I wanted to do something far more than complain about it.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Truthfully, it’s all been a learning process. I’ve made a ton of mistakes and will make a ton more–for sure–but I’m thankful for the opportunity to make them. The only thing I wish could have been different is my level of drive and confidence. At times, both faltered a bit and I got overwhelmed by the details and lost focus of why I started Supperhood in the first place.
