Meet Pam Schmidt of Practical Alchemy in Littleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Schmidt.

Pam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My parents are both artists and I have always been interested in art one way or the other. I was born in Calgary, Alberta and I moved here with my parents in 1983 and I never left. I started with drawing and painting and then found my true love…sculpting. I later found leather to be my major love because I can incorporate all my skills in this one medium. I love the human form and nature and most of my things are inspired by these things. Lately, I have found that the message is driving me the most. To perhaps give a perspective or ask a question.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think being an artist is tough because my whole life people have told me that you cannot make a living from art. And having a job and trying to put your all into art is almost impossible. So mainly money is a big stick in my cogs as far as that goes. But as an artist, there is an empty void in my heart when I can’t find time to create.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in many things….from clothing and costuming to traditional art. I am a fabricator of many mediums.

I am currently reinventing myself and I am trying to come up with an epic and unique message that has a lasting impression.

What were you like growing up?
I was never shy when I would move into a new neighborhood I would go door to door and ask people if they had kids I could play with. I loved swimming and riding my bike and ice skating in the winter.
