Meet Pamela Schenck-Kelly of Park Meadows in Lone Tree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Schenck-Kelly.

Pamela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was with the company that originally developed Park Meadows-TrizecHahn; in 1995 I came to complete the building development as the General Manager. We originally opened in 1996 and then expanded in 1997, 1998 and again in 2008.

I started my career in shopping centers as a marketing director and regional director opening shopping centers across the United States. I then moved into Operations and Management in 1985, Leasing and Development in 1990 and from there my background became more diversified and comprehensive as the company sought the right person to manage Colorado’s only Retail Resort.

Park Meadows was always about the customer experience from the beginning with unique first to the market stores, award-winning architecture and one of the best geographical locations in the nation including the only dual freeway access in the metro area with a Light Rail stop. The challenge in our business is to stay current, fresh and relevant to today’s consumer needs, wants and experiences. A super regional shopping center such as Park Meadows has to remain cutting edge, in tune with the lifestyle of our consumers and always experiential.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Retail real estate is by far one of the roughest roads to drive. However, in my opinion, the most rewarding aspect is there is no other place that people work, play, dine, and shop for their entire life. The stores, merchandise and selections to include various types of businesses are ever-changing. It’s important to follow the evolution of technology, recreation and mixed-use to keep a higher level of relevance to the marketplace. We have to be on top of everything around us including roads and transportation.

The expansion of I-25, 470, County Line, Yosemite, and the Light Rail are integral to the success of Park Meadows. As is the economic development, employers and quality of life in the entire region. It is important we are always looking ahead and our evolution/construction often requires some store closures. It is like clearing the shelves to make room for a new product. Change for Park Meadows is not the doomsday of brick and mortar that the press promotes. Success requires steady hard work and the ability to change.

Park Meadows – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Park Meadows is Colorado’s largest enclosed regional shopping center. Although the property is almost 24 years old it is still majestic and true to the architectural style of Colorado while kept updated each year. This year we will install electronic/interactive directories. We are known to open one of the first stores in the nation within our shopping center. For example, Amazon 4 star opened in Soho (NY), then the 2nd store opened here at Park Meadows in November of 2018. Tesla opened the first enclosed mall store at Park Meadows, third in the nation and so on.

Also, when a store opens in Park Meadows it does so well in the marketplace the chain will open more in the Denver market which is not true if they open elsewhere or first within the Denver Metro area. All the economics aside, the single thing I am most proud of is all that Park Meadows does for the area, not just our support and charities but the fact we can be a part of every moment of your lives. From the baby gift to the stroller shopping, first day of school outfit, activity gear, fishing poles and snowboards, homecoming, graduation, college, bridal shower, weddings, first home visit and day to day life. Start that process over again and again with every generation. Bricks and mortar; Park Meadows, is what supports schools, police, fire department, roads, all that we depend on to enjoy our lives.
