Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Blake.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Patricia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2008, I created a bucket list: to teach English in Asia, to study Yoga in India, to become certified to teach Yoga, and to live in Colorado. On my journey, I moved to Seoul – twice – to teach English, and traveled southwest to Goa, India, to study Yoga. During my training in Goa, one of my anatomy and movement teachers was a Massage Therapist, Rolfer, and Bodyworker. His passion for helping people eradicate pain by using massage inspired me to learn more about massage therapy as a healing art.
I returned to the US to study and practice massage therapy in Austin. After only a few months, I discovered my gift of healing with massage, and in my quest to learn different modalities, I discovered Ashiatsu Massage and how effective it can be.
In the past, I have practiced under the supervision of a chiropractor, in massage clinics, and at luxury, high-end destination spas and resorts. Having an entrepreneur’s heart, I decided to move to Denver in 2018 and open Denver Deep, so that I could share my passion and purpose with the Mile High City.
I am a lifetime learner, voraciously studying anatomy, kinesiology, and bodywork. My commitment to being the Best in the West has blossomed from my desire to help people live their biggest and most wonderful life possible.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest challenge was battling the competing gravitational forces I had created in my mind. I struggled with the pull for my time and resources, coming from so many interests, ideas, and desires, and the many paths of attainment. I feared committing to One Great Purpose.
When I lived in South Korea, I observed an important and effective quality that was apparent throughout Korean culture. They all seemed to share an impressive ability to focus all of their efforts on one goal, with spectacular results. It took me years to appreciate and develop that skill, but I realized how much more effective I could be when I could commit fully to my own mogpyo, the Korean word for goal or target.
And once I committed myself, and I realized my Why, my purpose on this planet, my power to focus became stronger than any other interest that stood in my path, or created a distraction.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I love people, and, quite simply, I want people to feel good. I want people to feel safe and comfortable and happy in their body. Our days are numbered, and people shouldn’t have to waste any of them living in pain.
And that’s why I opened Denver Deep in the summer of 2018.
At Denver Deep, we only provide Ashiatsu Massage, and we create personalized treatment plans for each of our clients. I am certain that Denver Deep’s style of bodywork offers effective results with lasting benefits.
In Japanese, “ashi” translates to foot, and “atsu” into pressure. Ashiatsu Massage allows me to apply pressure in broad, smooth strokes with my clean feet while I hold onto parallel bars overhead. The bars allow gravity to assist me to apply deeper pressure than would even be possible with a traditional deep tissue massage.
The result is an intensely effective massage session. The broader surface area of the foot offers a more comfortable sensation when pressure is applied, as opposed to the pointier thumb or elbow, which are normally used in a deep tissue massage.
The bodywork and care that I provide at Denver Deep is unlike anything offered anywhere else. I focus all my energy on mastering one modality of therapeutic massage; therefore, I can provide a solution that is intelligently designed, specialized, and focused.
What were you like growing up?
I could share things like I grew up in Ohio on a horse farm, and that I enjoyed long hours in the barn brushing my horse after a long ride. However, I have a fun story that I think captures my personality.
When I was in the 3rd Grade, a classmate was having a birthday party. His mom had purchased enough candy to satiate the entire school, and therefore, our classroom had become the mecca of sugar. I convinced the birthday boy, Nick, that we could profit from selling the contraband candy to the other classes in the school. He wanted no part in my project, but after I negotiated a profit split with him, I convinced Nick to become a silent partner.
With the demand growing for easily accessible (and banned) candy, I quickly recruited my classmates to start selling for me. My candy crime ring was growing fast! Sadly, when my homeroom teacher discovered my organization, it was immediately dismantled I was hauled off to the principal’s office.
I clearly should have been punished as the ringleader of this crime ring. But when my mom arrived and heard the story, my teacher only gave me a warning, and she applauded my entrepreneurial efforts, saying, “One day, Patricia, you’ll be quite the businesswoman.”
