Meet Rachel Scott of Rachel Scott LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Scott.

Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved education; learning is my happy place! I took my first yoga class back in 1998 and loved how it helped with mindfulness and stress reduction! I took my first yoga teacher training in 2003 and was hooked. I couldn’t get enough. I earned two 500-hour certifications, took as many workshops as I could afford, and began working towards becoming a teacher trainer. At this point in time, yoga was part of my life but not my entire vocation. However, my life was upended after I moved from NYC to Vancouver in 2006. Within that one year, I got married, divorced, changed countries and bought an apartment. Many of us have had one of those times of great transition where everything seems to fall apart. During this time, my yoga practice and teaching became more important and I started to work in the yoga world full-time. I had worked in “corporate” yoga since I started (I had funded some of my training by working at my studio), and now I began working at YYoga. YYoga was growing and at its height had 12 studios in Canada. I became their Director of Teachers College, where I created their 200 hour training as well as several additional programs. Though I’d always been an education junkie and nerd, I wanted to hone my instructional design skills and I decided to pursue my Masters in Instructional Systems and Learning Technology. Around this time, a few things became apparent: 1. YYoga was not going to need me forever, and 2. I liked working for myself. I began to have a vision that I could act as a bridge for the yogis out there who wanted to offer educational programs, but needed someone with a mind for structure (like me) who could support them to make it happen. I left my corporate role at YYoga to work on my own and have been an educational consultant now for more than 7 years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ha ha, the road I think is NEVER smooth. One of the key struggles I faced was leaving my sweet, cushy job with YYoga. The dilemma: do I leave the safety net of a truly rewarding job to be on my own? Compounding the complexity of this choice was my desire to have a baby and a fear of leaving job security behind. (That may be a story for another time!) Eventually, the decision evolved naturally: YYoga didn’t need me as much anymore (after all, their trainings were made!), my desire for a family changed forms, and though I really enjoyed my time with the company, I wanted to own the fruits of my own labor.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rachel Scott LLC?
I call what I do, “catching lightning in a bottle.” I help yoga teachers and studio owners – intuitive, creative (and often busy) people – to structure and organize their passion for yoga into effective education. I meet people where they are at and strive to be of service to their vision: do they need a lot of support and curriculum to launch their program? Or do they need 1:1 coaching to manifest a truly unique learning experience? I bridge passion with structure to support the creation of transformation learning experiences.

I am most proud of my brand credibility. I have worked hard for many years to become an excellent teacher trainer as well as a savvy instructional designer. I leverage these skills to help yoga studios cultivate community, excellence and financial resilience.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Tenacity, curiosity, and the drive to create. I truly love yoga and its incredible depth and breadth. As a lifelong learner, the ocean of yoga provides an inexhaustible opportunity to study . Through my love of yoga, I have studied anatomy, philosophy, Sanskrit and music ~ just to name a few of the access points to this amazing lineage. I’m always pretty self-motivated and have an innate drive to create. As an entrepreneur, I wear many hats and creation can manifest in a myriad of ways, such as website creation, writing a book, designing curriculum or leading a teacher training.
