Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Scott.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve lived in Colorado for nearly 20 years, but I am inspired by my Southern roots, as I recently lived in Atlanta, Georgia for three years while getting my degree [Mass Communications and Photography at The University of West Georgia.
In my spare time, I love hanging out with my husband and my son/family. I’m known for enjoying a glass of Prosecco and popcorn with my girls. I love to travel and wish I could do it more often. I can be found going to any concert that I can get tickets for, and hiking is always my go-to no matter the season!
I started photography when I was in high school, where I mostly focused on 35mm film. Once I got my first DSLR I became increasingly more passionate about it. My dad was the one who really encouraged me to chase my dream of being a professional photographer and would often tell me to keep pursuing my gift.
I took a break from photography for about two years in college because I wasn’t feeling very inspired. Sadly after my father passed away in 2014, I realized how incredibly important it is to capture the fleeting moments of life. I picked my camera back up, changed up my editing style, and found inspiration in the world and people around me. All of this to say, this is why I kept his last name, Case, for my business.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always bumps in the road when you are starting your own business.
I think my biggest obstacle thus far has been the expenses that come with starting a new legitimate business on my own, without any help financially. This field that I’m in is definitely not on the cheap end. I finally feel like I am happy with all my gear and that everything I have invested in this last year is helping me produce the best possible images for all of my clients.
I enjoy the challenge of trying to find new ways to market my business and get new clients, but that can also be a challenge. I’ve been lucky and blessed to have great clients and couples that I’ve worked with over the last two years. I am still striving to grow my business in the years to come and I look forward to what is next.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I love the beauty of nature, natural light, people, and raw emotion. I think that is one of the things I’m most proud of in the work that I produce.
I specialize in weddings/elopements and engagements/couples. This is something I absolutely love to do. Weddings are so special and fun for me because no one is alike. Each love story is different, each wedding is unique, and that makes my job so exciting and fun each time I arrive at a wedding venue. One thing I love about couples portraits is traveling to the mountains, hiking, and exploring. I always encourage my couples to adventure for our sessions which is something I think really stands out in my work.
Even though I put most of my focus on couples, I am also passionate about capturing moments with families, as well as personal portraits (individual, senior, etc). I am very thoughtful about my work and approach each session with a passion to capture the essence of my subjects. I believe that portraits are art created to last for generations.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Denver and Colorado, in general, is such an amazing place to start a photography business. I will say, it’s a pretty saturated market, which can be daunting at times. Although the competition can be very overwhelming, I believe it’s pushed me to be successful to the point of where I am now.
There are so many opportunities and different locations for photography. Whether you want big-city photos, beautiful fields, unique red rocks, or vast mountainscapes, you truly can get it all with just a short drive anywhere here in Colorado. I believe that makes us so lucky as photographers and clients!
