Meet Rafee Hagop of Low Key Industries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafee Hagop.

Rafee, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Low Key Industries was started by my good friend Drew Shifter and I. We were very intrigued by the fashion industry and decided that we could make our own clothes. Drew and I started getting a lot of orders within our first year of starting out business due to the success of our timeless piece entitled “The Nostalgia Hoodie.” We were both still in college at the time and we were not used to gaining success this quick.

Fast forward almost ten collections later, I was finally graduating college. Shortly after Drew passed away leaving me with the company. My close friends Tino Sanchez and Gabriel Ocasio helped me run the business after Drew had passed and we were ready to do anything to make this company successful. The year is 2020 now and we are working harder than ever and are ready for all the successes that are to come.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been many obstacles within the brand. One of the smaller obstacles was being able to multi-task running the brand while going to college. The biggest obstacle was Drews’s untimely death which meant that I had to fill in all of the positions that Drew oversaw in the brand. This was extremely hard on me. It took me over a year to figure out how to run this brand like the well-oiled machine it was when Drew was still alive. I am still striving to be a better version of myself every day and there will always be more room for improvement. Another obstacle is being able to lead a team of inspiring individuals and make sure that they are all on the right path at all times. Being a boss is a very time consuming and emotionally consuming job.

Please tell us about Low Key Industries.
Low Key Industries is a men’s streetwear clothing company that specializes in outerwear apparel. We believe in the concept of storytelling through cloth which enables us to convey timeless impressions through the form of clothes. Every collection is a different concept in whichever piece in that collection tells a story of that concept.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not shit. That is not how life works and I never look back. There is only forward.
