Today we’d like to introduce you to Roman Hollowell.
Roman, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
September of 1993, my beautiful mother created her passion. When she passed away in 2012, I decided to step away from my career as a College Administrator on Auraria Campus to continue her legacy. The last eight years, I have encountered some amazing people in the Early Childhood Education arena. I am here today and my business is relevant today (level four rated program) because of the relationships I established as a childcare owner.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not a smooth road. Who wants something if it is easy??? Challenges, Not knowing how a child care center is operated or suppose to run efficiently. Not knowing how to attain a new business/child care license. Learning how child care assistance programs worked and how much tuition they paid for families. Working w/ staff ( cleaned house when I transitioned to center). Working w/ families (Some families were set in ways doing what they wanted to do instead of following child care policy).
Please tell us about Kids 4 Real.
Kids 4 Real Inc. (K4R) is a four out of five quality rated program. We have established partnerships within the community to enhance the services we provide to our families. K4R strives to employ quality teachers who work on building strong, positive relationships in a safe and caring environment.
K4R offers a balanced program of mental, social, and emotional development for children. This includes creative stimulation in school projects as well as recreation. Parent participation is encouraged and welcomed. The goal is to help our children grow physically and mentally in an atmosphere of acceptance that helps build confidence and independence. K4R has created the Oneta Elaine Hollowell (OEH) Memorial Scholarship Fund in her honor, which benefits a student enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program at Community College of Denver.
As a company, I am most proud of our perseverance through the challenging times. Our small intimate setting sets us apart from other programs. Children benefit best in settings like ours. More one on one time with the teacher is priceless!!!!
What were you like growing up?
Shy, quiet, introvert. Still am… As a kid, anything outdoors, first-generation Nintendo (still play from time to time), my mom engaged me into any/all sports. I was so busy playing sports locally/out of town I could not think straight. It was awesome!!!!
