Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lee.
Hi Ryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Contemporary Western Artist. I am from Denver, CO. I started drawing on skateboards as a kid. I went through several “careers” after college and was simply working on the weekends to pay bills. I began painting again as a young adult for enjoyment. Years later people began to see my art and wanted to buy it. I entered a famous art show that was highly selective and I got in my 1st try.
That built my confidence to become a full-time artist. I have now been a professional artist for about 10 years. My work is recognized and I am currently exploring other avenues of selling via E-commerce and social media. I am receiving demand for fashion, furniture, and anything I do that expresses my style and ability. I never know what is next. Like the open west.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been smooth. Through struggle like most artists deal with I also have to deal with self-imposed setbacks. I struggle with attitude and self-doubts. I have had setbacks from the legal ramifications of anger problems and previous addictions.
My mind is smart, but everywhere. Focus, goals, and deadlines will always be difficult for me. But I accept my personality and use it to paint the madness that’s in me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is definitely different. It’s a clash of the new and old West. I specialize in Modern West artistic endeavors.
Mainly paintings but I do fashion and furniture also. I am known for a sense of anger and humor alike in my work.
My work tells a story. I’m most proud of having no formal training and having to learn everything on my own.
I am also lastly separated by my personality. I am conflicted and complicated. But I have a heart for the little guy and at the same time in continual conflict with myself and my surroundings. I hope my art helps ease this conflict and make my art better as well.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
