Meet Sarah Anderson of Heavy Diamond Ring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Anderson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Paul and I have been playing music together since I was 19 years old. We started a band called Paper Bird with our buds and hit the road hard for about 12 years. Recently, when Paper Bird decided it was time to be done, Paul and I immediately started a new project called Heavy Diamond Ring. We work really well together so the transition was flawless.

Once we had a handful of songs we dove into the recording process and it all unfolded from there. The other players, Tate (drums), Blake (bass and vox), and Mike (keys and vox) joined the band in the process of making that record. It just all fell into place so magically! Since the release of our first record, we’ve been playing and touring a ton. We are also about to release new music soon! I feel so incredibly humbled and grateful for this band and always look forward to what’s next. We have so much fun together.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far it’s been super smooth because we’ve learned from our past mistakes! I just try to stay open, trust life and roll with whatever comes. Not having expectations is HUGE. Looking back I can see that every mistake was exactly what I needed in order to grow. BUT…I also think it’s much easier now because we are older and more mature 🙂

Heavy Diamond Ring – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Heavy Diamond Ring is an Americana folk-rock band. I’m the lead singer and occasionally play trumpet as well.

I’m known for not having a filter on stage. I talk about things that probably gross people out…oh well.

I’m the most proud of how loving and kind my bandmates are. These days, that’s everything.

What sets us apart? I’m not really sure! We have a damn good time playing live though.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’ve had so many proud moments. It’s really hard to pick one! In Heavy Diamond Ring though, my proudest moment was making and releasing the music video for Wild Things. The video features my 90-year-old grandpa and his sister. It ended up having the most profound impact on my life and is a memory I will cherish forever! The story is powerful. It’s a nod to family, memories, and simple, heart-filled living. My cousin Ellen Dziubek directed it. It would feel weird to not give her a shout out. She is so amazingly talented!! Watch it! It’ll pull on your heartstrings.
