Meet Sarah Jamison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Jamison.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my two-year tattoo apprenticeship in 2014 in Lakewood, CO at 24 years old. I became a professional tattoo artist in July of 2016.

I’ve loved art and created since childhood. I attended art programs at both CSU and UCD. My parents were supportive of my art pursuits, albeit surprised when I decided to enter into the world of tattooing. I do not come from a family of tattooed people. Part of what originally attracted me to this industry was a little bit of rebellion and a lot a bit of loving tattoo art.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Tattoo apprenticeships are no joke. I was working anywhere from 40 to 60 hours at the shop and then supporting myself on the side with part-time jobs.

While I was early on in an apprenticeship, my father unexpectedly passed away. As I said, he was a huge supporter of my art career. He was not however, a fan of tattoos. Literally, he hated them. Until he found out that I wanted to spend my life as a tattoo artist, he completely changed his mind and started to support me completely. Losing him in the midst of all of this, I felt completely lost and hopeless. I persevered and continued on with my goal and I know that I make him proud everyday.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
I specialize in neotraditional tattoos. I mostly work in color but I love black and grey as well.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a handful! Always very stubborn and headstrong. I’d like to think I’ve mellowed out a bit. I’ve always been interested in art, although I wasn’t always good at it!
