Meet Schantel Campbell of #HERsalon in Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Schantel Campbell.

Schantel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Most people call me Shanny. I’m the owner of #HERsalon here in Aurora, CO. I’ve been in the beauty industry for over ten years now! My interest for beauty started at the age of nine. I wanted to do something that was different from my peers but would make a difference in people life’s. My first clients were my family and friends.

Once I saw how enlightened my clients were after getting their hair done. I know the beauty industry was for me. What can I say it’s beyond a passion, it’s my life! I received my cosmetology license at Empire Beauty school in 2015. After beauty school, I became an assistant at a salon in cherry creek, then I moved on to a commission-based stylist at a salon in Parker, CO. After about two years, I realized that my clientele was really progressing and thoughts about taking the risk of owning my own salon had crossed my mind. I shared my idea with a couple of the other stylists within the salon to hear their thoughts. The words that got out to the salon owner. Is that I was quitting to open my own salon. She fired me that same day. My plan was to stay at the salon for another six months so I felt comfortable enough in opening my own salon. A week later, I had gotten my keys to my suite inside a Phoenix salon building. Within this same year in the month of February, my business partner and I had started #HERsalon.

After two years, I felt like I wasn’t given back to the community enough. I became an evening educator at Empire Beauty school. I love teaching future beauty professionals the love for making Him or Her feel their most highest selves through self beauty. Within my career, I have been given the pleasure of traveling within the United States. I enjoy traveling to other states to see their hair culture and to receive education. I am currently working out of a Sola Salon suite in Aurora, CO. My mission is to let the woman know that I serve that no matter the shape, size, career or passion. That they belong at #HER salon because you are HER. My goal is to open a storefront within the next five years and then expanded by having a barbershop side. I’m a Denver Native hairstylist and I love my city!!

Has it been a smooth road?
My road hasn’t been the smoothest. When I first started out after beauty school I was fired from a salon. Due to my expressing to others that I was thinking about opening salon. Once opening my own salon, I wasn’t for sure what I was doing and how I was going to keep products stocked during downtime. Another struggle that I had to overcome was learning how to make a set schedule sticking to it and saying no to clients. So that I can take care of self.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own a hair salon inside of Sola Salon Suites in Aurora, Co. I am the only hairstylist currently within my company. I specialize in color and extensions. I can’t really say which service I am known for because it depends on the seasons. During Fall and winter, I get a lot of extensions clients. During summer and spring, I get many color clients. I’m most proud that my company tries its best to stay on top of education and the latest trends within the hair industry. I feel that my company is different from others because our main focus is woman empowerment, comfortably, privacy and confidence. Along with haircare and self-care.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the diversity of the culture and how there is always an event to attend learn more about the different cultures and enjoy some good music!! Always easy to make a new friend in Denver. What I least like about our is city is that the city is tearing down history to allow more people to fit into the city. Denver has a lot of history in its city and it seems like day by day. It’s being torn down.
