Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Ausdemore.
Scott, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Denver about two and a half years ago, drawn to the mountains, like so many before me. Growing up in Nebraska, my family would take regular summer road-trips to Colorado. For as long as I can remember, the mountains and Colorado have felt like home. I just don’t know why it took me so long for me to realize that and move out here!
Since coming to Denver, I have fallen in love with everything about the city. The community, the climate, the neighborhoods, the people, and of course, the outdoors. One thing I noticed while talking with quite a few people is that they don’t get outside to enjoy the glorious wilderness in our backyard very often. I saw an opportunity to help inspire people to enjoy and care for the outdoors.
With a background in graphic design, web development, and a passion for nature and sustainability, I set out to create Adventurable. I’ve designed, built, and done all of the photography for the site. I love that it helps me get outside, and hope it inspires many other people to find amazing adventures near Denver!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My initial goal was to launch the site in the spring when the weather warms and more people are searching for ways to get outside. Then, COVID struck, completely throwing everything into jeopardy. I put the launch on hold, wanting to keep people safe, as I was awaiting more information about the virus. That was definitely a challenge, as I couldn’t get outside to add content to the site either. As everyone can attest to this during quarantine, it has been challenging in many ways.
Another challenge I have faced is brand awareness and getting people to the site now that I have launched. I want to build a community of adventurers, passionate about enjoying nature sustainably. I just need to keep the ball rolling with great content, customer service, SEO, and word of mouth!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Adventurable – what should we know?
Adventurable is a website that connects people of Denver or people traveling to Denver with outdoor adventures based on what they want to see (waterfalls, alpine lakes, ghost towns, etc.) or what activity they want to do (bring the kids, climb a 14er, picnic, etc.).
The site is extremely user-focused. I started by finding out what people were having problems with when planning/getting inspired for an outdoor adventure and built a solution that helps pair them with places that match their wants, expectations, comfort levels, and even drive-time from Denver. The goal is to guide people to amazing outdoor adventures with inspiring photos/storytelling, as well as all of the information they need to ease their fears of getting out there! Adventurable also strongly promotes a sustainable love of our natural spaces by always encouraging leave no trace principles.
I am super excited about the future, as I plan to partner with local businesses to help people plan full-day adventure itineraries. I also hope to build a strong community of people passionate about the outdoors by organizing group clean-up hikes and other sustainable outdoor activities.
What sets Adventurable apart is its ease of use, inspiring photography, and unique content. If you are undecided on where to go, you can even choose a drive-time from Denver, be presented with a bunch of views, select the one that tickles your fancy, and let Adventurable tell you where to go! I like to think of it as a local/personalized guide to help you find your perfect outdoor adventure near Denver.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like the most important quality is a close understanding of the user and how to solve their problems. The problem is that people are having a hard time finding information and inspiration all in one place while planning a hike or outdoor adventure. You may have to pull information from multiple places, and you may not even be sure where you want to go. Sites like AllTrails are hard to just browse for a hike, you pretty much need to have a name of a hike in mind to find information on it. With Adventurable, I’ve set out to create a fantastic user experience that helps guide them to the perfect outdoor adventure!
