Meet Shari Mitteco of Wellness Event Systems in Castle Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Mitteco.

Shari, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey into business was an indirect one. It started with my own cycle of yo-yo dieting. To combat the weight gain from emotional eating, I began to diet at the age of 12. My struggle with the on again, off again diet cycle fueled my hunger for knowledge about nutrition and exercise which ultimately led me into personal training and nutritional coaching realm and I opened my own business.

Through the years of working with hundreds of clients along with my own experience, and loads of research, I developed the Diet Terminator program. A program that helps people overcome overeating through the psychology of food. The program is now accredited and I teach it to other health and wellness professionals to utilize the step by step system in their practices.

I happened to fall into the world of networking by chance. As an introvert, I’m surprised how much I ended up loving it as well as the traction I gained very quickly (which is a huge surprise considering how shy I was). With many years of success in the networking realm, I acquired the Women, Wine & Wellness networking group in 2011. I knew taking the next step of hosting my own events would build my leadership skills as well as provide a better opportunity to grow my community which would not only grow my business further but would also be personally rewarding. And, it was!

After experiencing a large jump in business success through hosting my own events, I saw the value in helping other health and wellness professionals develop their businesses in this way. I licensed Women, Wine & Wellness and developed the co-ed version of the group Beer, Buddies & Better Health. I also realize that not everyone feels wine and beer are connected to wellness. So, I also created Inspired Wellness Network to give a more flexible opportunity for everyone within my systems. The key is, these systems are tried and true programs to help small business owners create community and thrive through relationship development without recreating the wheel.

Networking is all about developing relationships. When you develop your community and you have the business platforms you need, you will thrive! People buy from those they know, like, and trust. They also want you to get to know, like, and trust them. This is really where the magic in business happens… No matter if you’re a solo-preneur or have a large company. The people who buy from you want to be connected. I believe even more so right now. The world is seeking connection as there is so much havoc. It’s time to connect with your community, attract your people, and thrive. Developing win/ win opportunities.

My goal is to ensure passion-driven entrepreneurs have the tools they need to be successful in business while helping more people and making a bigger impact in the process – loving their businesses every step of the way!

Has it been a smooth road?
Although many opportunities have thankfully fallen into my lap, it has not been a smooth road. When I first started networking, I had no idea what I was getting into and as an introvert, some aspects of networking were very awkward for me at the beginning. I had to get WAY out of my comfort zone. Thank goodness I’m a natural observer and learn quickly from both my mistakes and others. I could sense when I was missing the mark in conversations and made adjustments.

What I realized is people love to buy but no one likes to be sold so, I simply stopped selling and started to get to know people and find out how I could support them. That approach was not only the golden nugget, it was also very personally rewarding because I like to serve and support others and it all became a nice, easy flow of helping people and gaining business along the way.

Once I acquired Women, Wine & Wellness and was facilitating the events, I had to get out of my comfort zone again by leading a room full of people every month. Although I loved the events, that part was another very difficult task for me who never liked to stand out. One of my mottos is simply “show up”. Which is what got me to where I am today.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our events are about wellness education for the community. We do offer a social networking aspect that is tied to the events but we are not typical networking groups. We offer opportunities for business owners in the community to highlight their expertise with speaking and sponsorship opportunities. Although we attract business owners, we also attract people looking to learn from the speakers and find wellness-related resources.

For the chapter owner, it helps them show up as a wellness leader in their community, builds their credibility, and gives them a platform to build their business through developing those ever so important relationships within their communities. The events are also a revenue stream for the chapter owners and make a little money for providing the events in their area. Overall, a win-win-win:)

We have nearly 30 chapters around the US and are growing. I also teach networking and have written a book on the subject “Getting Into Bed with the Right People in Business”.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I think Denver is a great place for our events. A lot is going on in the area and we do offer something different. Denver is a very open-minded area and it’s a great place to do business.
