Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Davis.
Shay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Drawing around five yrs old and started playing sports around this time as well. In high school, I started to oil paint and found that I loved surrealism so I started pursuing that style. In sports, I was an all American in football and basketball. I received a full-ride scholarship to play football at CU where I pursued an art degree.
After college, I did a few years in the mountains of vail and started getting into solo sports like snowboarding and Biking. During this time I sold my first painting and have been doing it pretty much full time for the last 20 yrs. I went to California for ten years from 2004 to 2014 were I sold in L.A primarily. After this, I came back to Denver and have been hard at work ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The art has been easy but the marketing side has been very up and down. I really had a tuff time from 2009 to 2011 during the crash.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
Oil painting in surrealism and animals. I’m most proud I’ve been able to do it full time for 20 yrs. What sets me apart is the discipline I have and the work ethic to have the best quality art I can possibly make.
