Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Renee.
Monique Renee, Furtographer, is the owner of Silver Paw Studio in Northern Colorado. Her mission is to empower you to tell all your Tales with Tails through photography and videography. Silver Paw Studio emerged from her nearly 15 years in the veterinary industry, fused with her experience as a “people” portrait photographer.
Every week Monique volunteers to photograph adoptable animals at Animal Friends Alliance. A member of heArtsSpeak, she also volunteers for special projects at other shelters and rescues throughout the country. Bailey, her fuffy little mix dog, Bruno & Ingrid the finches, and saltwater and freshwater fish all share their home with Monique & Steve in beautiful Loveland, Colorado. Monique speaks at local and national conferences, hosts the podcast Tales with Tails, posts new pet photography-related videos on YouTube, started the NoCo Pet Pack group and can spot a pupper from 1000 feet away in any setting.
Has it been a smooth road?
In Washington State and Colorado, I managed and worked in veterinary practices. At the same time, I ran my “people” photography studio while raising five kids. Once I retired from veterinary practice work, I missed all the animals. So five years ago, I completely pivoted my business model to be a photographer of Pets and their People. This required essentially starting all over.
Please tell us about Silver Paw Studio.
Many pet photographers will not photograph people. And many even specialize in dogs only. In my studio, I encourage people to be in the photos as an entire family or staff. My years as a people photographer and working with animals at the vet melded perfectly to photograph everyone together. Not only do I photograph you and your family pets (including cats!), I photograph businesses with their pets. In the last year, I added videography to my offerings as well. In fact, I am the only Pet Photographer uploading content every week to YouTube. During most of the last six years, I volunteered every week for Animal Friends Alliance photographing their adoptable dogs and cats. This is highly fulfilling work and I can’t wait to get back there.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
For me, photography is in my DNA. I will always be a pet and people photographer. As for my industry, it will definitely morph in the next few years. As more people learn to take excellent photos with their phone, there won’t be as big a demand. But including the entire family in your portraits is so much easier with a pro photographer. Videography is fast becoming one of my top offerings. I really think more photographers will start exploring the video capabilities of their equipment.
