Meet Soloni Freitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soloni Freitas.

Soloni, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was a little girl in Belo Horizonte, Brasil, I would draw every time I had a chance. Along the way, I left drawing behind and never thought of drawing again. After I graduated from Newton Paiva College in Brazil, I got a job as a manager at a travel agency. I worked there for a year and quickly realized that my heart was asking for something else. I craved an experience to live abroad. The opportunity came up and I moved from Brazil to Colorado to work at the Silver Creek Ski Resort. At Silver Creek, I was still working in tourism but not creating art. I did not want to continue this work for the rest of my life. After the ski season was over, I decided to move to Denver and here I met Jesse, who became my husband a year late. One day Jesse asked me if I could draw, I said, “yes,” and took a piece of paper and quickly made a drawing. He looked at me and said, “I was talking about a real drawing.” After that, he started showing me some techniques and I felt that I had found something very special. I rediscovered what in the past brought me so much joy.

Today, as a mature person, my search has ceased, because I have found what has always brought me inner peace. I know that only by doing what I love so much can make me feel the way I feel. A work that never tires me and never bores me, but quite on the contrary enlightens me. Art sends me all the time in search of more new techniques, new subjects, and above all, new experiences and discoveries that blends with my inner world with the one that surrounds me.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, the path I traveled was not at all easy. However, I am grateful for every challenge I faced, which helped me grow as an artist as a human being. As I said before, Jesse introduced me to drawing and painting. After what I learned from him, I was on my own. I did not have the time or the money to take any classes, but I kept doing what I already knew and got better. Whatever photos I found interesting, I kept them to draw later. With all this practice, I became an excellent self-portrait artist. Friends and clients have asked me to work from their photographs. After some time, this kind of art was not interesting anymore. I started to question if this was taking my creativity away. Something inside drove me to be free and spontaneous. To create and express, what I feel to be true as an artist. Another challenge: I left an art show without selling one single painting. This challenge really impacted me because it brought down my confidence as an artist.

My art varies and encompasses many different styles. It can be for home decoration, work environment, cafes, restaurants, etc. It is also perfect for exhibitions in galleries, fairs and art shows. I really enjoy working with watercolor, acrylic, graphite, charcoal, and pastel. For works of size 30 x 42 inches or larger, I like to use pastel or charcoal. My specialty is drawing the human figure in my own abstract style. For this type of art, I like to use vibrant colors that reflect my Brazilian culture. Yes, people know me by the way I represent the human figure. The freedom to create is the most valuable element to give creativity wings. The creativity that leads me to unique and meaningful work.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the endless outdoor adventures, the weather, the breathtaking views, the culture, the diversity, and so many other things. Denver is growing too fast and the traffic is not good as used to be.

    Great!
This work is so colourful, plastic and deep inspired! Maybe, the love for arts and for life are the answer for something so powerful!
How can be seen, with even more detail in her website, the works of Soloni deserve more attention from collection owners and from other ones interested in high-profile art. I think her works deserves to be seen for much more people in places like a large art gallery.
