Today we’d like to introduce you to Stasia Humphreys.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stasia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m in the business of helping people get rid of chronic pain through corrective exercise because it’s what fixed me almost ten years ago. Up until that point I’d never had chronic pain, but in 2009 my neck and back were in so much pain that I was unable to wipe down the kitchen counter let alone do things I loved like running, biking, swimming and lifting.
After a few years of various therapies that would help me feel better for a couple of hours or maybe a few days but never provided measurable or permanent improvement, a neighbor loaned me a book by Pete Egoscue that talked about how poor posture/alignment is at the root of most people’s pain. I started doing the exercises in the book and then sought out help through a postural therapist in Boulder. He helped me find the root of my pain and created a series of individualized exercises designed to bring me into alignment. I began to feel much better by performing a series of postural exercises on a daily basis. I was able to reduce my pain and improve my posture! The Egoscue Method worked so well for me that I worked with the Egoscue Institute and became a Certified Egoscue Affiliate and have been helping people get rid of pain ever since.
Since becoming a certified Egoscue Therapist, I’ve also been certified in Foundation Training, a series of exercises that are amazing for people with back pain, herniated discs and hip pain. These are also alignment-based but really focus on core strength through deep decompression breathing & pelvic anchoring.
Most recently I’ve been certified as a MUTU Pro™ and work with women of all ages to help heal core weakness, split abdominals (diastasis recti) and pelvic floor weakness (incontinence and prolapse) through safe and effective core & pelvic floor exercises. I’ve had a lot of success helping women with these issues heal and love this work!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running your own business is rarely if ever a smooth road. It’s been challenging. I think the most challenging thing is that I do everything: accounting, marketing, working with clients, teaching classes and more. Time management is key and that isn’t always easy. The fact that I am passionate about educating people on why they hurt and helping them treat the root issues and feel much better is what keeps me going. I love what I do and I love the changes I see in my clients!
Please tell us about Pain Free Clinic of Denver.
Pain Free Clinic of Denver is in the business of helping people get out of pain, move better and do the things they love to do. We teach corrective exercises geared toward two groups of people. Group A is all-inclusive because we are teaching people to improve alignment & posture to help alleviate chronic and/or recurring pain. Group B is women, usually postpartum women, whom we help heal from pregnancy-induced issues like diastasis recti (split abdominal wall) and incontinence and other pelvic floor issues.
We’ve had great success with clients from 15 to 88 and we’ve got some great reviews on Google to prove it.
We are proud of the fact that over 80% of our clients experience positive changes as we create the right progression of exercises based on our amazing evaluation program. We find root issues and treat them with the exercises we teach.
What sets us apart is the treating root issues rather than symptoms. For example, Mike came in with sciatic pain down his left leg into his foot, causing drop foot. We found that when we got his head and shoulders into alignment, his leg pain was reduced…so our focus was doing a lot of upper body breathing, mobility and strengthening work. Another great example is we are strengthening and healing women’s diastasis recti through safe and effective core exercises that don’t exacerbate the problem.
Lastly, my clients will tell you that we are great listeners. We need to know what the client is feeling and thinking in order to give them the best possible outcome.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have had some coaching on getting started, time management and the most effective ways to get our important message out more effectively.
