Meet Stephanie Gunther of Wax Creek | a brand marketing agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Gunther.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent approximately ten years in the construction equipment industry managing marketing departments. Both companies I worked for (Tiresocks & Reachmaster) had very niche products that were sold to a niche market which is where my love of branding was cultivated. I enjoyed managing the various aspects of sales and marketing and quickly realized that the success of any company is correlated to numerous small and intentional marketing strategies and campaigns that cohesively work together. Trying to find the “one big thing” that will bring you success is as elusive as finding the end of a rainbow.

In 2016 I burned out on traveling. I missed so much time with my (then six-year-old) son. I decided to start my own marketing agency.

Today, my mission is to encourage and illuminate people and companies to prove that growth has no limits. Once you have the guiding light of your brand, the sky truly is the limit.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Here’s where things get real. Starting a business is hard. I spent nearly two years trying things and failing, trying again and succeeding, changing the company name, changing my focus, reading books, market research, redoing our website more than once, fail, succeed, rinse, repeat. You get the gist.

Through this, I emerged with a new understanding of what challenges small businesses face. We spend so much time watching other companies, our competition, influencers, peers, and colleagues do things a certain way that we completely lose OUR way. Science proves that when we deviate from the core things that make us who we are, and what makes us unique, our customers lose trust.

The other scenario is that we grow fast and never really address the core components of who we are, what target market will make us most successful and/or we hire people that change our companies in an unintentional way. If you don’t build your company in a way that clients love, remember, and share you’ll find you have to work much harder to acquire new customers and keep the ones you’ve got! Most people can probably relate to this concept if they picture themselves on a hamster wheel! And honestly, in entrepreneurship, I feel like we can all relate to this.

Through intense research and experience, I determined that successful companies possess some type of “secret sauce”. ONE thing that dictates how all the other things work. BRANDING. Companies who understand who they are, what they stand for, and who their customers are, are successful. Period.
