Meet Steven Hunter of Pyramid Security Consultants in Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Hunter.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Steven. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My business partner and I started our first security company in 2007, in response to lack luster service in the industry. I have been on the other side of the table; a customer trying to find/ work with a security company who cared about what was most important to me; and the disappointment that came with failed expectations.

We sought to create a company that really cared about both providing a great service but highlighted a commitment to integrity and great customer service. We created such a company and successfully maintained a family like culture with both our clients as well as our employees; we continued this model until we sold in early 2018.

Although we prided ourselves on great brand culture, the toll of maintaining such a high level of quality with contracts that were literally running 24 hours a day, seven days a week became too overwhelming which is why we sold and looked for other ways to serve our community.

Since then, we’ve launched Pyramid Security Consultants; a consultancy that prides itself with being the one and only resource that you’ll need for all things security-related. With over 40 years of combined security, law enforcement, and military experience, we have the knowledge, training, and expertise to assist with whatever your security needs may be.

We have been called upon to train and protect at-risk companies and agencies in both the public and private sectors. From banks to local schools, from retail corporations to Real-estate development companies, we have consistently minimized client vulnerabilities while protecting both their personnel and property.

It has been hard but rewarding work and with the avant of COVID 19, this year our challenges have been more than substantial. However, with continued community support we’ve managed to continue doing our part to help keep our city safe!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but easy. Both my business partner and I don’t come from money. Neither of us had a background in how to build a company with no startup capital, no credit, and no idea how to begin. All we had was a vision to create something new and special. We started working small-time events here and there, then started building relationships with clients. Some of them had favor on us and would let us know about upcoming opportunities which led to bigger opportunities.

This year started off really hard, as I’m sure it has for most people; all of our most promising opportunities were literally wiped out within a week. It’s been tough maintaining and even tougher trying to grow, but thankfully we have managed to maintain our consistency and continue to service our community during these trying times.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I remember when I was a kid, we use to have these sleepover parties with kids from school; we would eat pizza stay up late and play video games until the next morning sometimes. Those were great childhood memories and also much simpler times.
