Meet Summer Asturi of Summer Productions in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Asturi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The journey into my industry was very untraditional. I had no idea what a producer actually did or was. I didn’t grow up thinking I wanted to be a commercial or film producer. In fact, I always wanted to be an attorney. Upon having my daughter at just 18 years old all I knew was I wanted and needed to be my own boss. Showing up to the same job everyday at the same time seemed like prison to me. So, I started daycare and I ran this for two years. I absolutely loved the children I got to work with and saw a few of them through diapers to school aged years. The connection and freedom that I felt during that time, I knew would be extremely important in the next step of my career..wherever that would be. In January of 2017, my daughter needed some extended healthcare at Denver Children’s Hospital. I uprooted my life and moved myself and my daughter to Denver. With no job, no idea of what I even wanted to do it was a very confusing time. During this time, I was a freelance model to make extra cash and to get by. I became more acquainted with the production world. I started assisting on-set and I quickly realized producing made sense with how my brain works, it was fascinating how sourcing and organizing things relaxed me when often times it stresses others out. As my first year in business approaches; I am extremely humbled and blessed to say it has actually worked. Not only am I excited for what the next years hold in store as I grow I want to give back to the community in which gave me a home base and a chance. Thank you Denver!

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been easy by any means… Everyone has challenges and that is what shapes us. Mine have fortunately turned me into the hard working woman that I am. Being a teen mom, to fighting through broken hearts and beating the odds of what many called a traumatic childhood. I still struggle. Some days I wake up with a cloud over my head and am unsure of how to get through the day. On those days, especially, I am thankful to have the freedom to disappear with my daughter and go on adventures that make the soul feel good.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Summer Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Summer Productions is a full service production company. From commercial and film projects to event production, we find a clients vision and source the creatives or the supplies needed to do so. We are known for pulling together the last minute pieces of the puzzle on behalf of our clients and sourcing amazing talent for the creative vision. The most exciting part of a project is when I continuously have to convince a client we have it under control and watching the nerves and disbelief on their face. Once the production rolls out seeing the smile and breath of fresh air that they breathe once they realize we REALLY did have it under control is the reason we are in business!

As the SumProds team grows, I truly hope to bring light to humanitarian topics through narrative film. I want to inspire in a new and juicy way. We have some things in the works here locally, in Jamaica and a European adventure where we hope to find stories, heart, desire, passion and even heartache.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing about Denver is the camaraderie and creatives in each corner. I feel as a community, we all are very welcoming and willing to work together. It has been very rare to feel any sense of competition. My least favorite aspect of Denver is how little commercial work is offered here. We have the talent and creatives for any project thrown our way. We also have the resources and the beautiful land to showcase any brand’s vision with the right direction. I hope to help change that and bring more business for the creative culture here.
