Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Ghandour
Hi Tamara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Like a good Netflix series, my story is a series of surprising life episodes that brought me to where I am today. I’ve always been obsessed with human innovation but how that translated into work took on many forms. Over the years I discovered that the key to making an impact in innovation wasn’t in giving people ideas and solutions (like a traditional consultant), but in showing them how to unlock their innovative minds so they can generate their own ideas and solution. To give the confidence, clarity and power. Since we are in the beginning of 2021, I’ll focus on the recent episode of my journey. Like so many, the rug was pulled out from under me, and my business, in March of 2020. My innovation business was focused on delivering innovation training in live event – keynotes at conferences, corporate meetings, retreats, etc….until all that came to a screeching halt and I found myself with this strange dilemma. On one hand “what” we did couldn’t be more relevant (helping people be confident innovators that can tackle anything that comes their way), yet on the other hand the “how” became irrelevant (live meetings). I quickly had to figure out how to find new paths to my customers and deliver innovation in a way that fit their new lives and solved their new challenges. It was challenging and involved a lot of trial and error, but I’m proud to say that as we move into 2021, our Everyday Innovator Online Academy is truly delivering high-value daily and helping people turn their ability to innovative into their greatest competitive advantage.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think how we face the bumps in the road are less about the size of the challenges and more about expectations. I expect bumps of all sizes so when they happen, I’m ready. I may not have the solution, but my mindset is ready to tackle them head on. Furthermore, I believe the bumps I’ve faced are a gift because they’ve helped me build a kick-ass business that delivers incredible value. If I hadn’t faced them my work would be mediocre and I’d be complacent. Neither of those lead to long term success. One of the biggest challenges I faced in launching the Online Academy is helping people overcome the learning curve that comes with launching an innovative product or service. In my world innovation has been focused on initiatives and processes, and is delivered in one-time conferences, or course. I’m focused on the human side of innovation, delivering innovation in a personality assessment and ongoing, online Academy. While I know my approach works better than the other options because it is based on behavior change principles, neuroscience and 25 plus years of work, I still had to educate the world about why. They simply were used to a different approach, even though it didn’t work well. My advice, if you are someone with a wildly innovative idea, is twofold: First give your customers something familiar to go with your innovation. This will help them feel comfortable taking the leap. Second, don’t hide behind the objections you’ll get, deal with them head on. On my website FAQs you’ll find that I’ve already answered my customers unstated objections because I know they are coming. I always try to view obstacles as opportunities in disguise. This gets me excited to tackle them.
