Meet Tara Eich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Eich.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began modeling in Hawaii. I, by chance, attended a local bar that would host local meetups for models, photographers and stylists, and was convinced to give modeling a shot. Something I had always wanted to do but never saw it as a realistic dream, and boy was I wrong! I began meeting local artists and designers that loved working with me and were just amazing at patience and teaching me about the industry. Before I knew it, I was on magazine covers, invited to luxury events and asked to walk runways. Literally, a dream come true for a mother of three and late in age. Modeling then became something I just could not live without. At one point, I was doing up to 12 photoshoots a week. I became almost obsessed with every aspect of the modeling world. Makeup, design, wardrobe, set designing, pose coaching, you name it, I loved it! I started to dabble a bit in acting, and I’ll admit, I’m no good at that, but it sure was an amazing experience every time. Once I started gaining traction in the industry, I started traveling a bit for work. I wasn’t a huge fan of the traveling model life. I preferred to stay close to home with my family, so I’m sure I missed a lot of opportunities to rise as a model but I was ok with that.

Then my husband retired and we made the hard decision to move closer to his family here in Colorado. I was very concerned on if my modeling would be able to move with me to the mainland. Models on the mainland are a dime a dozen. I was worried about my age and my height would hinder any chance of continuing my passion here, but those fears were very soon crushed. As I settled into Colorado, I used all the networking skills I had gained and found my way to meeting some of the most passionate and talented people I have ever met.

Throughout my career, I have made the closest friends a girl could dream of, been blessed with so many indescribable experiences and had my mind blown by the creative talent Denver possesses almost daily. Of course, as with any profession, the job has its downsides but I wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything. The passion in Denver creatives, in my mind, is unmatched by any place I have ever been.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle would be my height and my age, but I am happy to say that Denver welcomed me with open arms despite my shortcomings as a model. A smaller struggle would be balancing my passion and career with also being a mother and wife. My two youngest children are autistic, so it’s hard to explain to them why mom has to leave for a weekend in a way that makes sense. They do still get very excited when mommy is in a book, though, which always swells my heart a little.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Modeling and acting is a strange world to live in. Most models choose a niche or demographic which they specialize in. Unlike most models, I am among those who just live for the creative end. I love all styles and types of modeling but I would probably say I am most skilled at and enjoy, swimwear and commercial modeling. I feel like I am most proud of retaining my morals and compassion. I have seen many people changed by the industry, growing more and more distant from who they were, to begin with. You can grow confident without being ok with stepping on everyone around you to lift yourself a little higher. I pride myself in helping people connect with like-minded creatives and I am happiest when someone in my tribe succeeds where I failed to be perfectly honest. I think that is also, sadly, what sets me apart. Comprehending that the industry thrives with collaboration and lifting each other up, seems to be rare in this industry, and a much-overlooked fact. Every model I mentor that is the first thing I stress to them. It could take just one person to change an entire industry, and every new model I meet is a possible game changer!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say my most important quality leading to my personal success is my mindset. I know who I am and I know my worth. I neither inflate nor downplay that. I like to keep things real, pass on as much knowledge I have gained and I see others’ success as great as my own. My confidence is rock solid and my diva is always held in check. Remaining humble, real and strong I key in this industry. Contrary to popular belief, no one likes a diva or self doubter and if you don’t know who you are 100%, you will struggle and other people will see that.
