Meet Taylor West and Savanna Thoemmes of Getfed Concepts Llc in Southeast Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor West and Savanna Thoemmes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor and Savanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Getfed Concepts is a pop-up company started by Taylor West & Savanna Thoemmes.

We started with a poke yoga pop up at Hoghead Brewery in the Highlands neighborhood August 2017. From there, we unveiled our Handmade Sausage concept (sausage party) and a Southern Seafood boil, all held at breweries thought the front range.

In March of 2018, after we traveled to Thailand we got our business license and commissary kitchen and focused on GetFed full time. Around that time, we were asked to host a sushi rolling class for an apartment complex downtown and thought that was a great new concept. After completing the event, we had a few breweries ask about hosting a class… that’s when our second major concept was born (sip and sushi).

We have done pop-ups with Great divide, lone tree brewing company, Hoghead brewing company, Odell brewing, FH beer works in the springs.

2018, we had to hurdle the transition from being local chefs to Chef-owners and going through the process of setting up, maintaining the business and preparing the end our year needs. The cooking aspect was always the easiest part but it was setting events, responding to emails and social media messages, reaching out to others for collaborations was more of the brunt of the work.

The turning point came in 2019 when we took all the mistakes and success that we saw last year and really worked to have more of a pop up scheduled that lead to us having 5-6 events each month since April and lasting right now till the beginning of September. This has allowed us to streamline promoting our events and seeing the momentum of each event carrying into the next. Building a flowing not just online but thought the community is what we are focusing on the rest of 2019.

Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles that we encountered we really making the transition from being a chef to a Chef/Owner.

Doing all the leg work of setting up the company, getting the license, and dealing with the health department we’re some of the first obstacles we had to overcome.

Then it’s more of maintaining client relationships and all the contacts that we met through the journey.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Getfed Concepts Llc story. Tell us more about the business.
The thing that sets GetFed concepts apart from the rest is the simplicity of our food. Our chefs have traveled the world through cooking and have developed a huge case of culinary skills that come out through the food we cook.

One of our major concepts is Sip & Sushi, we started this stage and concept early in 2018 with hosting it at apartment complexes and then moving it to a ticketed event at breweries.

It has been one of our most exciting concepts to date with people leaving the event with skill and appreciation for the art of Sushi.

Continuing with the Sushi that is one skill that we feel sets us aside from a lot of the new chefs in the pop up scene, our chefs can cook a range of cuisine from Italian, Spain, southern American(us) to Pan Asian cuisine but we have seen that the art of sushi rolling is Intimidating to a lot of chefs that have no experience in Japanese food lot along sushi.

For our chef it’s just another skill we are proud of, we promote our specialties are based in Asian cuisine and culture.

Having opened Departure Restaurant in cherry creek with chefs like Taylor Stark, Khomala Vonsenkon and Gregory Gordat our chef really connected with the food and followed up with trips to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think there will be a lot more discussion over the mental health of a common Chef. The way social perspective of chefs in America is below average with the rest of the word. I do see the idea of restaurants going in the direction of an all-employee tip pool being a very popular tread on the rise.
