Meet Timothy Meador of The Tramp About in Fort Collins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Meador.

Five years ago, Brandon Spain and Tim Meador decided to go out on their own and start a mobile food cart with the intent of bringing high-end street food to the breweries of Northern Colorado. Their business was inspired by the idea of “Regional American,” a concept that allows them to build anything from a midwestern tenderloin to a Northwest-inspired ramen dish. All handmade creations are inspired from their various travels and cooking opportunities across the country. Their innovative styles and concepts have settled into a well-rounded, rotating menu that caters to the standard American offerings, the occasional international fare, and a seasonally rotating menu where vegans and vegetarians, kids, and regulars can all find a new plate or an old favorite to indulge in!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the beginning, The Tramp About started out as a mobile pushcart and has developed into the full-size truck that our patrons know us for today. The mobile pushcart had its limitations but, not wanting to scale up too fast, they fought through many hot summers, cold winters, and being overrun with orders that a pushcart could barely maintain. Eventually, they felt confident that their business could sustainably grow to new levels, which in a few years time included a second truck and guaranteed them schedules with some of northern Colorado’s top tourist breweries.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Tramp About – what should we know?
We specialize in Regional American food. While that can be very specific with different dishes from a select part of the country, the idea of what is “American” when it comes to cuisine can allow for many elements of creativity to flow. We have a couple of items that are the fan favorites and are nearly always on our menu. A couple of these items are our Blackened Shrimp and Andouille Po Boy and our Cubano Sandwich. Both we have our take on and make them uniquely our own.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
With our success, the determination to always be out for our customers is huge. Even more so, our dedication to flavors and always making sure that any dish is going to be up to our standards of bold and balanced seasonings for what each of our products requires.
