Meet Trailblazer Angela Hollis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Hollis.

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I wear just a few hats. I am a wife, a mother to a precious boy who turned eight today, an author of two novels (Broken and Soul Journey), a school psychologist, an adoption caseworker and the owner of Painted Petals, a furniture restoration business. To say my life is busy might be an understatement. One of my greatest passions is to create, whether it is with paint or through words. I love my job as a psychologist, but as one can imagine, it can be stressful, and hard to separate that from daily life. So, to relieve that stress, I began writing painting furniture. It turned into a fun hobby, to a small business.

Has it been a smooth road?
My journey has not always been smooth. Writing and painting is time-consuming, there are blocks and there is frustration. It’s been a challenge to balance family, work, painting and writing. One thing I have learned over the years is to delegate. The older I get, the more I realize, I can’t do it all, and that’s ok! It’s important to focus on the goal, on the prize, and determine the best way to get there. I’ve hired others to do the small things, to clean, to run errands and to do my prep work. It was then, that I realized how precious my time is and to build a team of trusted friends, family and employees to help.

We’d love to hear more about Painted Petals.
As the owner of Painted Petals, I do my best to make my customers/clients happy and to provide the highest quality restoration work possible. I take the time to find the perfect piece, to prep, and to learn new and fun techniques. I challenge myself to step out of the box, to try something different and to become better with each piece of furniture. I don’t do “average”. My pieces are unique and my goal is to have someone look at a creation and say “I have to have that”.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Both of my grandmothers have been an incredible inspiration to me. These two women loved me and treated me as if I was the most talented person on earth. Because of this, it was fun to show them new projects, new stories, new pieces I created because I knew it would be admired. I knew they were proud of me no matter what I did.
