Meet Trailblazer Angela V

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela V.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had always enjoyed making videos when I was really young (like nine years old young). I was pretty sheltered as a kid and spent a lot of my summers inside, exploring the internet and then one day, came across a random makeup tutorial and thought, “Whoa! That’s actually really really cool. I wanna do that too!” (I knew nothing about makeup or hair by the way) I was only nine!

At the time, I stacked shoe boxes and water bottles to create a tripod, used my dad’s old point-and-shoot camera, and an old Ulta makeup box that I received for Christmas. Ahh, 9-year-old me, imitating Michelle Phan’s soothing voice, showing the world how to do a frosty winter look. I didn’t care if people didn’t like it, or if no one watched because I fell in love with the process of creating, and being my own director. I loved having full control and being responsible for teaching myself how to edit, and to add music and to do voice-overs.

Fast forward a decade later, I was on and off with video making and didn’t fully take YouTube seriously until about two years ago when I had first turned 20 years old. I wanted to create again to help me destress from personal things that had been happening in my life, and to document my twenties, as I was going through so many transitions and wanted to show other twenty-somethings the importance of learning to become independent, and that not all millennials are living a glamorous lifestyle. I became passionate about opening up about my day to day struggles as a broke twenty-something, living in a bigger city, and offering my knowledge about planning, budgeting, and thrifting!

That’s when “elloitsangela” was truly born. I started putting myself on a creative schedule (which sounds weird, considering creativity should be something that is the free form) and started uploading weekly and am now in the works of becoming more consistent on my website. I started to meet new people who felt how I felt, and who challenged my thinking. I have learned things about myself and my work that I didn’t know before. It’s so cool!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For me, it was hard to keep consistent to an uploading schedule and to not allow myself to stress out about perfectionism. I would get really discouraged looking at other girls my age who were more successful than I was, comparing my work to them- thinking, “Who would even want to listen to what I have to say? Nobody cares. I’m not pretty enough for this. I’m not smart enough or funny enough or cute enough-” A lot of negative stuff.

I would get so discouraged by numbers and would let that stop me from creating. I still have so much room to grow and to learn, and there are times when life can put me in a creative slump but I constantly try to remind myself of why I started, and my ultimate goal, and that keeps me going. I LOVE MAKING VIDEOS. I LOVE EDITING AND CREATING and I have SO MANY IDEAS. There is someone out there who needs your help. There is SOMEONE who would seriously appreciate, knowing that they are not alone in a given situation, so why let your ideas sit on the shelf and collect dust? You have to put your big girl pants on, and just go for it. If you feel intimidated by others, do your research. Work your butt off, be kind to others, and be yourself. Everyone else is taken. You won’t know the journey until you actually start!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a lifestyle YouTuber and an Online Content Creator. I enjoy making videos about saving money, thrifting, productivity, and learning to live happily!

For me, I think I’m most proud of the fact that I’m slowly becoming more and more comfortable with my brand and how that represents me as a person. “elloitsangela” is a happy space, that radiates positive energy and is honest. It grows as I grow, and it has open doors! Everyone is invited. 🙂

Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mom. She came to the United States at a very young age and really advocated for herself in order to make a living and support our family. She learned English, opened up her own business, became a professional nail technician, all while raising my younger sister and I. I have watched my mom run into so many obstacles and she has continued to boss up every time. She’s considered the “cool aunt” in my family, and I think my favorite thing about her is that she always treats people with kindness. She may be nice, but she must not be underestimated. She’s always honest and doesn’t take any BS. She’s a trend-setter, a go-getter, and my number 1 fan.
