Meet Trailblazer Anna Addoms

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Addoms.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Colorado girl born and raised. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and in the middle of the tech boom. Many people say that working in tech and with small businesses and startups is in my blood.

After art school and college with B.A. in English, I went off into the world of startups and tech in Silicon Valley. I spent six years working in the ultra-luxury travel and experiences spaces, where the sky was the limit, if you could dream it, we could figure out how to make it happen. I then moved on to the ad agency world, where I managed $20MM a year in ad spend for big brands specifically focused in the mobile space. But helping people make money for the sake of making money, isn’t really my thing, so I left the ad world in San Francisco and moved to North Carolina to help a small med-tech startup find it’s feet. eMind Science focused on making mental health resources available via mobile devices.

In 2012, I founded Wicked Marvelous to help small business owners grow their businesses through platform development, user acquisition, content development, and brand design. We work with everyone and don’t limit ourselves to a single market or sector.

Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think I’d believe anyone if they told me they had a smooth road in business; that’s unrealistic. I would say that my biggest challenge, especially in the beginning, was defining my ideal client and understanding and valuing my own worth.

I had a smoother experience than most, likely due to the vast network I’ve cultivated and some early clients who became evangelists and spread the word about my services.

My best advice for other young women starting their journey: don’t undervalue yourself. When you underprice/undercut yourself, not only are you hurting yourself in the long run but you are also hurting your industry.

We’d love to hear more about Wicked Marvelous.
Wicked Marvelous is business consulting agency focused on working with businesses on growth through platform development, user acquisition, content development, and brand design, among others. We work with small teams, solopreneurs, and companies determining the best way to grow a long-term team.

We thrive on variety and new challenges, which means we don’t limit ourselves to one sector of the marketplace. Some of our clients include: tech companies focused on sports education and coaching, a fine artist embracing the digital world to create the new frontier of online cultural content, and a doula agency raising the standard for the profession and for family care.

As a brand, I’m proud that we offer a variety of options for our clients. While we specialize in custom consulting, we recognize that not everyone needs a consultant or can afford one. So we offer DIY courses, where you can take advantage of all our knowledge but do the work yourself and sometimes you need more than a course but less than a consultant so we offer 1:1 business coaching packages.

Regardless of which path you choose, any experience with Wicked Marvelous is customized to you. Unlike most platforms and agencies, we don’t believe in the cookie-cutter approach. We listen to you and help sort out what you need and the best way to go about getting you to your goal. We also believe in getting our clients to a point where they no longer need the agency, we’re available to help but we don’t want our clients to feel like they can’t operate their business without us.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Trust your instincts but cultivate a relationship with a mentor or advisor who knows about the sides of business that you aren’t as strong in. Also, find your tribe – having a solid network of people to bounce ideas off of, refer business to and from, and people who cheer you on, celebrate your successes, and help you pick yourself up when things don’t go the way you expected is invaluable.
