Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Crangle.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ash. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Where to begin! I’ve always been the creative type, I love to get my hands dirty to create a work of art from scratch. I’ve always been interested in art whether it be ceramics, painting, graphic design, but I could not figure out where my passion lied. Once I got my hands on silver, there was no turning back. I started off with youtube and a torch, I found it pretty difficult to teach myself the trade of a silversmith. Once I moved to Colorado, I took a few classes which gave me the practice and skills I needed to start a business. I loved it so much I dove in headfirst. After over a year of hard work and dedication, I finally started running my business full-time in May of 2019. There is so much more to learn in this trade and I believe its what I love the most about it, I am always challenging myself to learn more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a difficult journey for sure. Not only have I put a lot of my finances into it, but a lot of hard work. You’re not going to become a pro overnight and even as a pro you will still mess up a piece or crack a stone and have to start over or put more time into fixing said piece. You’re working with fire! Patience is key. I worked a part-time job on the side while trying to build my business. This helped pay for my rent, my tools, my classes. I really worked hard to get to where I am now and I still have so much more growing to do! To my fellow women out there… you have to have that drive to follow your dream. Set that goal, and don’t give up!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Silver Ashes Jewelry – what should we know?
I specialize in silverwork! Occasionally, I will work with gold but that is only for special requests. I believe I am known for my white buffalo pieces which is a customer favorite and everyone requests for custom work. I source those stones from a family-owned mine in Nevada. What I am most proud of is being a one-woman show, this is a full-time job and I handle it from top to bottom. From marketing to emails, to re-orders, I do it all! It can be overwhelming at times, but it feels damn good to say that I am the lone soul behind Silver Ashes Jewelry.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
There will be moments when you don’t think you will do well or that you are as far as you can get. All I can say is don’t let that thought stop you. There will be bumps in the road and there will be tears, but as long as you work hard and stay positive, I guarantee you will succeed.
