Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Froese.
Carrie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I never would have guessed that I’d end up here. Before having kids, I didn’t think much about sleep. My husband and I moved out to Centennial from Kansas shortly after we were married and spent all of our spare time enjoying the outdoors! Hiking, running, camping, snowshoeing. Sleep was WAY down on the priority list if it even made the list!
Boy did that ever change when our children came along! You don’t realize how important sleep is until you suddenly stop getting it. I could not get my son to sleep! I woke up each morning feeling anxious about what lay ahead of me. I dreaded nap times and bedtimes. I was sleep-deprived, helpless and out of ideas. I was not capable of being the mother, wife or person I truly was. I was desperate for relief and knew I had to get help.
Looking back, that low point in my life was also the turning point. It was the start of my journey into sleep consulting. After discovering Sleep Sense and teaching my son how to sleep, I realized I would love nothing more than to come alongside moms in that same hard spot and help them find the relief that I found.
I completed extensive training with the founder of Sleep Sense and joined a network of more than 200 Sleep Sense Consultants worldwide. I get the privilege of coming alongside families who need help. I work with them individually, customize a sleep plan for their child that fits their family’s needs, and walk with them as they make changes. My greatest joy is journeying with them and helping them find success!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your own business is never a smooth road. Do you know what the hardest part was for me? Making the decision to go for it! I debated for so long. I could have easily told you all of the reasons why it didn’t make sense, wasn’t the right time, we couldn’t afford it, on and on.
I eventually realized those were all excuses. I was scared. Scared of failure. I was letting my doubts keep me from doing what I knew in my heart was the right path for me. I finally just had to make the leap. It takes bravery to start.
It takes endurance to succeed. It’s tough starting a business from scratch. There will be many failures along the way, but don’t let that stop you. It’s more about how you respond to those failures than the fact that they came. Push through the hard beginning for the rewards to come!
For young women like myself, don’t doubt your potential. You may have a picture in your mind of what an entrepreneur looks like and it probably doesn’t look like you. Don’t let that stop you. If you are passionate about something, follow that passion, it’s there for a reason!
We’d love to hear more about Restored Sleep Consulting.
You will find Sleep Consultants all over the place. What sets me apart as a Sleep Sense Consultant is that I have been trained by the best! Dana Obleman is known world-wide for her work. More than 57,000 families have used her methods to sleep train their children.
I work with children from weeks old to years old who struggle to sleep well. Most people don’t know that you can actually start teaching your baby how to sleep from the beginning. Starting early will help you avoid the pitfalls that many parents fall into that lead to sleepless nights.
My goal is simple. Help children learn to sleep through the night. This is achieved by teaching independent sleep skills. If a child is young enough to still need night feeds, I work with them in developing self-soothing skills. They will continue to get more consolidated sleep and eventually the weaning process won’t be an issue.
While most books and programs dealing with child sleep problems take philosophical stands (based largely around the issue of “crying it out”), I believe that a child’s sleep is more important than my personal views on the subject. I customize my sleep plan to fit each family’s needs.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be creative. Think outside the box. Networking is extremely important. Think about any context that you might find someone who cares about what you do. Don’t be afraid to ask. Every “no” gets you closer to a “yes”!
